Unsolved_
Ruined Villages are a bunch of accumulated ruins, containing basements with loot, underground passages and rooms that are difficult to walk through. thus, some ruins and their basements are connected. The villages only spawn on the surface, and are a rare high level dungeon with better loot than cracked vessels
Maelstrom
Village ruins already exist. Not sure why people would connect their homes underground though? The upcoming 1.18 update has procedurally generated dungeons with (to my understanding) better loot than the surface and cave ruins we currently see. It's not in the feature list of the prereleases. Tyron was working on something like that in the past but there's no guarantee it's ready for deployment, or if he even liked the result of his experiements. Maelstrom
I must have misunderstood his posting about it. Thank you for the correction.
Davis
I think we will be getting ruined villages, reason I say that is in the new 1.18 version, the traders constantly talk about most of their kind holed up in villages and only the brave (money hungry) traders brave it out alone in one of the dialogue replies. I think that's a good indication we'll at some point see trader villages, and in turn, ruined villages as well.
