I love your approach to the simple things of crafting mechanics, though I find the described method a bit complicated.

The point in reorganizing the crafting system is to get rid of the grid (which I think is not necessary, but it will be fun to see how this is possible). Making easy stuff way more complicated can be a part of this, and I totally agree about weaving your fibers, rather than just "crafting" linen in a grid like we are called Steve and can form diamonds in our hands.

Regarding the combing of the fibers, we would need to experiment the balancing to make the process not to slow. It has to stay playable and more realism is not always more fun.

Fires already go out through rain, why not through wind? You are right! I would suggest that the game checks for 2 block high walls near the firepit that could catch the wind and is there are none, it is more likely to extinguish through wind when the fire is under 500° or so.

I don't dislike the grid crafting at all, in my opinion it can stay as is for the most part. But it will be lots of fun to find out what nice little mechanics will be found to replace it. Just slamming a stick into the ground to craft your twines and ropes sounds like just the simple and convinient method to do exactly this! So please don't stop suggesting such neat little ideas. Tyron needs to hear them, to make his game even better.

I'm totally with you, the game should demand of its players to put work into the simple things of life also in that aspect. But for the combing part, I must still say, crafting methods should not be an annoyance. With the limited storage space in stone age, having to craft jet another tool that serves just one purpose seams a bit annoying.

But yea, we don't decide on that. Tyron has to do that.

Sure! No problem with suggestions. I guess that every little crafting detail needs animation and models for it. That way it is harder to make everything so detailed.. It could also make game less optimized and harder to make mods for. But yea... The more suggestions, the more possibility some of them could inspire devs. :)

Regarding this current suggestion in this thread. Im not against more crafting mechanics - idea isn't bad or good. And it's interesting to see those ideas. But those mechanics should be more obvious to add to game, so people, who have no idea how ropes (or any other stuff) is made in real life, could still understand how to progress. :) Grid recipies are easy to find and execute while process described here would need more explanation. But reading mass texts in game isn't fun and entertaining in my opinion. :)

I have made some suggestions too about this game myself, but i always keep in mind that adding them could be very hard or even impossible. :)

As I sayed, the grid crafting is okay for most parts, I think. But it is on the roadmap to get rid of it, so we will have to learn how those things are done anyway. Nice sideeffect is the learning for real life. This we can see in the metallurgy and geology system. Much of what you can learn from Vintage Story applies to real life and can be helpful. So why not teach people how to make twine from flax in reality?
Explanations are the only obvious way to transfer knowlage, unless you implement short tutorialclips or so. Written text is not fun, but the most accessable way of transfering skills. Otherwise, such things could be taught by other players via youtube, for the ones who don't like reading.
Much of the possibilities in Vintage Story can easily be figured out by experimenting with the environment. The stick-rope-crafting sounds not to counterintuative. How would you make ropes and twine otherwise in real life?
As nice and simple the grid crafting is, Tyron takes a different approach and we like to contribute to that. Exactly by those nice, little ideas.

Exactly my opinion!

And as long as it stays logical, at least within its own universe, players will learn quickly. Just as players learn to smack dry gras on the ground to start fire, they will learn to ram a stick into soil to craft ropes and twine. Methods are repetitive, so learning is intuitive. We can build up on the idea of putting down simple materials for crafting, to support Tyrons roadmap and his vision of what the game should be. We still need a method of composing things outside of the crafting grid. The stick-in-the-ground idea fits perfectly I think!
