  1. Hi Marc, I am testing the mods for the server with the 1.5.3 game version.

    I get this error:
23.5.2018 23:36:12 [Warning] Mod 'Earthworks0.1.2.1.zip' (earthworks): Error parsing version string '0.1.2.1' at index 5: Expected PRE_RELEASE or BUILD_METADATA, found '.' (best guess: 0.1.2-1)

And the blocks are not available in game.

  2. Thanks to everyone that posted their opinions here, I got what I shopped for. Some live in the forum.

I must confess I never really intended for the sword to be removed from the game.

But I would love to have a shift in the way we use weapons in the game and how many different weapons we have. A shift for a more natural and intuitive way.

It just bothers me when I get home from work and there are no new posts in the forum.

  3. I still think of a sword as a weapon that only makes sense in the context of war or fight against an opponent also armed with swords.

Thinking of animals, I could see the drifter as a white Gorilla. Now, suppose you actually have to fight a Gorilla, would you prefer a sword? Or a long lance? That you could use without having to get so close to it?

For locusts, I can imagine a giant spider, the size of a Pekinese. Here a Halberd maybe would be more useful, A blade attached to a long shaft. But for sure not a sword.

I just can't imagine anyone trying to kill a wild boar with a sword, unless as a last recourse.

  4. Well, I must admit that my main purpose was to bring up a controversial topic to spice up the forum.

Likes and dislikes aside, It worries me when the forum is quiet for too long.

So, please give me comments, I want you to disagree with me and give me your reasons. The exchange of ideas is what will make this game a success.

hm. I don't think removing the sword makes sense in the context of a survival game. You would need to implement hunting in a much more realistic way to offer a good alternative. As in, animals are would be much much better in escaping you, would be near 1 hit kill with spears or arrows and can easily kill you if you get too close

But, why would I throw my spear? I never do that.I like the spear because of the reach that is bigger than the sword. Like I said maybe a Halberd would be a good idea.

In the end, all I know is that if I found myself in a wild world with no civilizations and full of dangerous animals, I would not go around with a sword. I would have a bow and arrows and a lance.

I just think it makes more sense.

  5. It's a possibility, although I would prefer for real animals. There are very dangerous animals ion the real world. Without guns, it would be very hard to kill a Lion or a Rhinoceros,

I actually dislike the drifters and would prefer for real animals.

But even for drifters, a spear should be much more efficient than a sword.

The main thing is the reach, with a sword you need to get close to whatever you are trying to kill.

Just for a moment suppose the zombie apocalypse happened, and for some miracle, you are one of the survivors.  In the absence of a shotgun, what would you choose, a sword or a spear? Or maybe a lance. Or even a Halberd, anything that gives you reach.

  6. A sword is a man killing weapon. It only makes sense in the context of war.

No tribal society ever used swords for hunting.

As the game develops more and more into mechanical power and automation, it will be even less oriented towards PVP.

Who would spend 100 hours building a base just to have it raid or destroyed by another player?

I say, remove the sword from the game and move towards more effective hunting weapons.

    Make a launch.bat file containing

    VintageStory.exe --dataPath D:\path\to\datafolder

alternatively, what just came into my mind, you can make vintagestory believe it's in a dev environmenet which causes it to place it's data files into the same folder as the binaries. For that you have to move out the assets from the binaries folder, i.e.

    1. Create a new folder vintagestory. Place the %appdata%/VintageStory/assets in there
    2. Create a subfolder binaries. Place the rest of %appdata%/VintageStory/assets in there
    3. In the vintagestory folder create a launch.bat like this

rem set cwd to the directory of the exe file
      cd %~dp0
      cd binaries
      call VintageStory.exe

    4

I am really sorry to keep bothering, but I cant understand steps 1 and 2. Once I place the %appdata%/Vintagestory/assets in there, I have no rest of %appdata%/Vintagestory/assets.

  8. Portable or self-contained. I am not sure what the right expression is.

What I mean is for either the game itself changed or to have a version that is contained in one Directory.

I would like for a way to modify game files without messing with my personal game files.

I wish for a game that keeps all its files inside one directory, no %appdat%, no user/local/temp.

The main benefit for me is that at any moment I would be able to keep my working files in that directory and go play for a bit, without the need to constantly have to restore the original files and remove my not yet working mods.

Also, that in itself would make possible to have different versions of the game on the same computer. Something that any player that uses Multiplayer needs one time or another.

When an update comes, sometimes it breaks compatibility with one or another mod. Everyone wants to try the new update, but it may take a while for servers to be able to get the new update. Most of the times, servers need to wait for modders to update their mods before the server can update.

  9. I have been using the stone chisel extensively, and come to the conclusion that the durability usage for the hammer is a bit expensive. Is easy to destroy even an iron hammer when mining for resources. Could you please reduce it? Or remove it completely? After all we are already damaging the chisel itself. There is no need to damage the Hammer.

  10. It's a good concept, as it also bothers me that drifters and spiders do not drop anything. Although in real life we do not always have usable resources from an animal, like a spider.

In any case, we should be able to get at least fertilizer components if nothing else.

I would like to ask if is not too much trouble for a mod version name standard.

The form I think works best is : [Game Version] Mod Name.Mod Version.

When administering multiple servers we are forced to keep a mod repository and need to be able to quickly identify mod version and compatibility.

  11. We have your mod Earthworks on our server, it is beautiful, I love how natural the clay deposits look.

Thank you very much for all the work.

Not a requirement, but it would be cool if we could have different textures of the different clay colours. I mean for raw clay when we are creating the molds and the raw item.  Of course they should have a nice colour once baked.

  12. The idea for this server is to offer a family safe and fun place to play VintageStory.
