  1. That is one thing I wish would be more standardized. By that I mean that the Worldconfig parameter values can vary widely from one setting to another. For example: toolDurability seems to be a percentage value ([0-99]), but the default value is 1. surfaceCopperDeposits ranges from [0-5], with the default value of .1 propickNodeSearchRadius ranges from [0-12], with a default of 0 Now, natural growth and maturity of the code base certainly explains why some are set one way and newer values are set another. Devs are certainly allowed to change their minds, and perhaps this is what these varying ranges of values indicate. That said, the variability strikes an odd note in my mind and makes it harder to get a real feel for them. Then again, I've been exposed to too many RPG's with mandatory and consistent numerical ranges, and perhaps that's clouding my viewpoint. Silt
  2. Here are a few tips for those on Windows machines. I cobbled this together after spelunking through the forum (and using Google's 'site:' search.) Please note I'm a passible beginner (at best) and not even *close* to an expert. But this works for us. Kludgy probably, but that's enough sometimes. This works for one Server running at a time. Others report success by cloning the VintageStory install directory to another location and referencing it in the Windows Desktop Shortcut. Sounds entirely plausible. I installed a new instance and archived the standard user profile for later use. On windows this would be: C:\Users\<theusername>\AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData. I simply extract and rename it as as my new Server Directory. It does work with an existing user configuration folder, it just has more stuff than what you really need. To create a new world, I use Single Player mode to test them, then copy the '<name>.vcdbs' to the new Server 'Saves' folder. Ok, now with two servers: Server2020 Server2021 Windows Desktop Shortcut changes: 2020 World: Target: X:\xdir\Vintagestory\VintagestoryServer.exe --dataPath=X:\xdir\VSWorld2020\ Start In: X:\xdir\Vintagestory\ 2021 World: Target: X:\xdir\Vintagestory\VintagestoryServer.exe --dataPath=X:\xdir\VSWorld2021\ Start in: X:\xdir\Vintagestory\ 2021 Server Configuration: Note: You need to be VERY aware of the changes you make, such as noticing the ',' at the end of the lines listed below. Always make a backup before changing anything. A good text editor (such as Notepad++) can help enormously. Configuration file location: X:\xdir\VSWorld2021\serverconfig.json Modify the ModPaths setting (if you want additional server specific Mods) "ModPaths": ["Mods","X:\\NonSteam\\VSWorlds\\SpooneyServer2020\\Mods" ], Modify the "SaveFileLocation" setting: "SaveFileLocation": "X:\\xdir\\VSWorlds\\VSWorld2021\\Saves\\<servername>.vcdbs", Modify the Port section: "Port": 42421, Optional modifications: ServerName: Ex: "ServerName": "SpooneyWorld 2021", WorldName: Ex: "WorldName": "NewTelengard", WelcomeMessage: Ex: "WelcomeMessage": "Welcome {0}, lets have some fun.", Hope you find this of some use. 3. Charcoal works as well. Uses it up pretty quickly though (if you have lots of chests).
  4. Never found them in the 1.7 series, and in the 1.9x series, my wife and I spent the better part of a playing week looking for bees with no success. I got sick of it, generated a damn hive and only after that have we ever seen them (and still rare at that). Terrain type we found them in was where you find hyenas and brown grass.
  5. IIRC, isn't Polished Rock is dependent upon Solid Rock? My wife and I spent days digging out blocks and blocks (and blocks....) trying to decide floor color and pattern in the game we play together. Went through a metric ton of picks doing it.
  6. I agree completely with the regards to MC and Hytale aiming for the broadest player base. If you can do it, it works well (as far as that goes), but there aren't many OF ANYTHING that achieves that goal. Heck, WoW is a prime example; 15 years after release you still you hear people say "it's a WoW clone" when talking about a new MMO. The result was a decade of companies chasing that elusive "WoW killer" title, and generalizing their games as much as possible to the detriment of players looking for something with more flavor and depth. Fortunately it seems the industry is shaking that off, and realized that a great, enjoyable and profitable product is possible without targeting trillions of users. Personally I see a lot of promise in games like VS and RimWorld (perhaps Pantheon Rise of the Fallen; we'll see). Beautiful, detailed and deep product that do not aim for the most generalized experience, knowing full well they are targeting a particular subset of the overall gaming audience. Personally I am very glad to support them fully, and I just hope others value it too.
  7. Yea, it can be a lonely, sparse world in VS at times. I find the absolute worst to be when you do finally stumble across a trader's hut and it's empty. =( Course my worlds tend to be generated prior to the fix for that, but still... Silt
