  1. @Thorfinn Just switched to a Logitech mouse and both problems are gone. Scrolling is normal in inventory, and also enlarging map (had been using a Microsoft mouse, both new as of a few months ago). I'm curious to know if you happen to be using a Microsoft mouse too?

  2. Hi folks. I've had some problems with the mouse wheel not scrolling across the inventory slots properly. After attempting to adjust it with the settings slider, the map can no longer be enlarged; no matter which direction I scroll, the map only gets smaller.

Changing the slider in 1.19 has also affected 1.18 which now no longer works either. I installed 1.19 and played for a little while last night without changing the slider and the map was fine. This morning, after fiddling with the slider and realizing that it broke the map, returning the slider to default settings did not fix the map problem. I even deleted clientsettings and didn't make any changes to the mouse settings, and it still did not return to the original state.

Anyone have any idea of what I should do? Have you heard anyone else mention this problem? (I do not use discord) I did post in the Vintarian Support section but it doesn't look like support is active there.

  3. I haven't played since 1.18, and I am not tech savvy (so please give clear and simple instructions).

After installing 1.19, the scroll wheel on my mouse had no effect on scrolling across my inventory. I attempted to fix it with the slider bar this morning, but cannot achieve a satisfactory result (it skips over some slots, especially the first 2, almost jumping across them as if repelled by them; then will act normally for several slots and then skip again, most often skipping one or both of the first two slots. No amount of fine-tuning the slider bar has solved this issue).

Worse yet, since making the changes to the slider bar, I cannot enlarge the map with my scroll wheel as I'm accustomed to -- it will only get smaller! Returning the slider bar to the original position has no affect. AND that now carries over into 1.18 which had been fine until I made these changes.

To be clear, last night I did not change the slider bar and the map was fine. This morning, I changed the slider bar and it broke my ability to use the map. Plus I still do not get a satisfactory result on using the wheel to select an inventory slot.

OP basically sent that and never re-visited the post again ':/

I might as well throw in my two dimes. I'm one of those people that try to play with as little mods as possible. I currently have 1 mod, and that is related to bed respawn, other than that I'm all vanilla.

But since some people in this thread play with 50+ mods, i do wonder.. What do all those mods do? Are they changing the way the game is played, or how does it affect your game/world and most importantly, your frames /sec?

There are so many mods available that cover all manner of things. I'm sure it would depend on what sort of mod(s) you choose to install. For myself (and I haven't played in awhile), there were several quality of life mods that I used to use. I wouldn't play without Copygirl's Carry Capacity, which is now (last time I looked) Carry On. Others will chime in, I'm sure, but I did eventually expand to maybe 10-12 mods and never experienced any problem. Anyway, take a look at the options - there are some really good mods for this game: https://mods.vintagestory.at/home

eta: realized this morning that I should have mentioned most of my quality of life mods have already been addressed in the game and no longer require modding

At least I'm not sure what else affects hunger. Sprinting, being wounded, something in off-hand. Anything else? That I can do in early game?

Are you also without mods? Iirc, CarryCapacity had a penalty of some sort for carrying anything larger than a reed chest on your back. May have been a speed reduction, but I'm thinking it increased hunger. Not certain though... and not sure if that has come forward into CarryOn.

  6. There used to be a way to pull up the character creation screen which *should* allow you to change class. I believe the command was:

    .charsel

Please use your copied save though. I've not done this in a long time and do not have access to the game right now to verify that I'm remembering correctly.

    ETA:

From Wiki, looks like you can only change class once!:

    Quote

After joining a new world the player enters the Character Creation screen, where the player can choose one of 6 classes. Alternatively the player can run the .charsel command to enter the Character Creation screen again, but only once! In case you need to re-select your class on a multiplayer server, get in touch with the server admin and ask them to run the /player [name] allowcharselonce command for you, after which you will be able to use the mentioned command.

Thanks for the answer, I spent the weekend killing other drifters but not even a single gear for now, and it seems really strange to me to have a nice hoard of time gears (which should be rarer to drop) and never drop any a single classic gear.
At this point I really hope it's just bad luck, because if it were a bug I wouldn't know how to fix it and being a blackguard I need to use traders. :)

    That is really strange.

Have you tried posting in Discord about this? You would get more eyes on it.

Two things that come to mind: you *could* make a copy of your save, then use the copy to test out...

    1. what happens with the mods turned off.
    2. what happens if you switch your class to Commoner (because that one does not have any modifiers).

If it is a bug, maybe there is something with the Blackguard's modifiers that is causing a conflict (although I cannot imagine what it would be). But, yeah, it is really strange that you would be getting Temporal Gears but not even one Rusty Gear.

  8. 🙁

Installed 1.18.6-rc1, created a world using my previous seed that I was happy with, and got -- hmm, maybe I cannot use that word here. Anyway, it was absolute [insert word]. I mean, this is so vertical that it doesn't even invite playability. Not sure why the same seed is completely different in 1.18.6-rc1 but this result is so bad that I don't even want to play or explore.

[snip] But then again, unless I spawn in the middle of that, I would never know the extent. I would just look at it and head in some other direction.

Now there have been several worlds that may well look like that, but all I do is run through the valleys looking for resources and suitable terrain. Starting from either of the entry points on the bottom of the screen, I think you can probably go past that lake then head NE through that valley. Not familiar with the perspective because I don't nerdpole that high, and climbing a mountain that high would be pointless, but it looks to me as if you can weave your way through there.

Well, THAT'S a good point! That is exactly what I do as well; no telling how much janky terrain I've skirted past, blissfully unaware.

  10. As you go through the checkout process (place items in cart, then one or two pages past that) there will be a place to provide your email address as either a returning member or a new member. If your email address is the same as your forum account and you're making the purchase as a returning member, then I believe it should be linked properly. This is just my assessment of it though, having just done a 'trial' purchase to test it out; I've no particular special knowledge on the subject.

  11. I had a lot of trouble with that too.

It is shift right-click. I just went into the game to figure it out again because I could not remember. Using the raft is not intuitive at all and I didn't notice any tool tips.

The Damage Log later shows 11 times damage (its 3hp per hit, i reduced it in world configs).

Do you mean the configuration screen when creating a new world? Or is this a configuration file for one of the mods?

My suspicion is that perhaps this configuration setting is not working as expected, or is interacting with a mod in a way that is not expected (in other words, that you *think* is has been set to a reduced number but the number is actually multiplied... although the effect is not seen until some mod or combination of mods sets it off).

If you don't get an answer here about which log files to look at, maybe ask in Vintarian Support or in the VS discord server.
