By chance, the game became known by YouTube in Republic of Korea.

When I first saw this game, I thought it was the same as other games that were similar to simple Minecraft, but it can be said that it is a game that makes good use of its own characteristics in the block world established by Minecraft.

You might think it's difficult when you try it, but if the information is in your own language, it's not difficult, rather than other "TerraFirmaCrafts." The kind system stands out. If you want to try this game, I don't think you'll have any regrets about trying it.

However, in the language of a particular country, you have to play in English for reasons such as broken letters, and this may hold you back.

I love this game, I love it so much, I'm so glad I happened upon a random video on Youtube by complete chance and found this. I have been searching for a game like this for years. Thank you developers, thank you modders, thank you entire community for this game. It's a masterpiece.

I can't really explain it, but this game gives you a sense wonder that can't be matched. Anything feels possible, and you'll be surprised by how in-depth just about every feature feels.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this game to you, and at 18.00 EUR it honestly feels like a crime to pay so little and get so much in return.

I bought the game a couple days ago and I have to say it's been one of the best purchases I've made this year so far. The mechanics, the environments, even the progression is so well thought and so immersive, I really can't get bored with all that offers, specially with the latest update (1.18.0) and all that adds.

Is very well optimized and crafted in general! and the OST is AWESOME, I have to say I kinda have an addiction right now haha only thinking about "what will I do next" and even gifted a key to a friend too.

But overall a must play if you like challenging survival games! totally recommended!

Sure, a lot of people will assume Vintage Story is a minecraft clone, and it is in of itself a standalone of a very nice minecraft mod called Terrafirmacraft.

 But the atmosphere and love and attention to detail in this game is on a totally different level that it feels wrong to compare this game to minecraft at this point. Despite both games being block games, Vintage Story looks, sounds, and feels so much more vibrant, alive, beautiful and engaging. I still like minecraft but Vintage Story has been filling a gap that minecraft has lost to me and that gap is challenge and reward. You can work to get some decent loot in minecraft, sure, after like 5 minutes then you can fight almost the whole world and be at no risk of losing your gear. In Vintage Story you're at the mercy of the world, and you need to work and toil to be able to scrape up a comfortable existence.

 But why is that so important for the gameplay cycle? I made an iron pick in minecraft, cool, sure, I can go get some diamonds woohoo. I get an iron pick in Vintage Story? This thing is the fruit of literal hours of prospecting, mining, blooming, and shaping the metal into a pick. It's a real achievement, and by that I worked Hard to get this one single tool. This alone made this very simple experience into a level of being special that is dripping from all places in this game. It makes you Love your work, your progress. All of your work is slower and harder but it Means something. Your house is your pride and joy, your armor is your lifeline, even your meals are a satisfaction that just makes all of that work so worth it when you get there, I hardly ever feel this in minecraft anymore, minecraft is just more of an arcade, a game to kill time and play for the sake of nostalgia but Vintage Story fills that nostalgia in many more ways than modern minecraft can for me. That reason is because Vintage Story is a hard, hard game.

 It's not unfairly difficult either, in their 2022 trailer it even says in the beginning "If you only do what is easy, your life will be hard" and that very much applies to the gameplay here, you work hard to live peacefully in this game and that's just something I cannot stop loving. This game in its early access state is such an accomplishment in what it does that I cannot recommend this even more, and I haven't even got into the atmosphere, the community, the QOL features, the sound design, everything else in this game truly has love put into it by a small indie dev, versus the mass produced slop of weak updates made by a corporation that sadly overshadows minecraft now.

 Get this game, I guarantee starting out will be difficult, confusing and perilous, but that's the journey, that's what I miss from old minecraft. You will love it here, thank you for reading my review.

This is my favorite game of this year by far. Normally in sandbox survival games I just get bored after a week but this game has kept my interest for way longer and shows no signs of losing it. The clayworking, smithing, and mechanical power systems are really well put together and I can't wait to see how this game evolves as more features from the roadmap are added.

This game is addictive! I love the way the game is developping all the challenges the environment provides for you. If you like some mechanics that were originated from TFC but tries to go further, I really recommend for you to try this game.

Beautifully made game. If you enjoy voxel games, bushcrafting survival, or both, you'll love this one. It's very lovingly made and is a great experience even though it is relatively early in development. The developer is very responsive and the community is awesome.

TLDR: I put 120 hours into the game in 2 weeks. It's the first survival game I've played for more than an hour. If you're even remotely interested in what the game advertises I think you'll love the game. Great survival and great building options built in - easily the best building game I've played.

This game really surprised me. Every survival game I've tried previously, including Ark, Conan, etc., has been an almost immediate no for me. But, while looking into Minecraft mods/alternatives, I found Vintage Story, and after reading up on it and watching some gameplay, I was really interested in trying it out (still not sure why, exactly). Because of their generous refund policy, I decided why not and gave it a shot, fully expecting to refund it within the first hour or two. Well, I blew past the 10 hour refund limit the first day I bought it.

What I like:
1. I wouldn't describe this game as fun necessarily - I think "satisfying" is more accurate. Most activities involve both a fair time investment and some kind of struggle, like finding your first tin vein or learning how to find that tin vein. Then, when you actually do, you just get a real sense that you've done something; I actually shouted "hell yeah!" when I found my tin and iron veins. Unlike a lot of modern games where it's a constant barrage of achieving/acquiring things, Vintage Story makes you work for it and it just feels better when you get something done, even if the rate of doing things is slower.

2. Just cool mechanics in general, lots of small things. You can build a greenhouse which will keep your crops warmer, which may let you get an extra harvest out of them before winter. On the topic of winter, animals become leaner (fewer drops) and you have to care about your body temperature. You can build a cellar to keep your food cooler and slow down the spoilage rate during the summer. Just lots of really neat things like this that add a lot to my next point.

3. Immersion. This is actually one of the most immersive games I've ever played. Great ambient sounds, fantastic and mostly realistic environments (blocky graphics aside), having to actually deal with the world around you. This is something that's hard to describe, but when I'm playing the game I feel like I'm really exploring a cave, or some ruins, or whatever.

4. Building. If you've played a voxel-based building game before it's basically that. But, there is a built-in feature called chiseling which is the real game changer. This has different levels of granularity which allow you to remove chunks out of most blocks, so you can make customized pieces useful for decoration. Additionally, you can combine multiple blocks for use in chiseling, which allows you to use all the textures of the combined blocks. Want to make a wood and stone block so you can do something like make a stone pillar with a wooden adornment? You can. This is such a cool feature and if you love building in games I think this will be huge for you - it has opened up huge doors for me.

5. Tons of customization options. You can adjust hunger rate, tool speed and durability, and so many more parameters right out of the box. This is a big positive to me because I think it allows more people to enjoy the game by changing/removing parts of it they don't like for whatever reason. Or just for accessibility - I set tool speed to 300% due to hand pain and not having to hold my mouse as much is great.

What I think can be improved:
1. Adventuring, They're actively working on this, and as of the latest patch have added the first static story dungeon to the game (which I haven't gotten to yet, but am looking forward to a lot). But, outside of that, I don't feel a strong desire to really go out exploring, particularly in the caves. There is loot, but aside from the lore it can all be gotten much easier and safer. And caves can be really dangerous. So it's a pretty poor risk-reward structure.

2. A reason to progress. Except for copper to make a saw to make certain things like chests and more building blocks, you really don't need to progress past stone tools. On one hand, this is great because it's really an open-ended sandbox game. But, it would also be nice to unlock cooler stuff as you progress up to steel (and possibly beyond). Right now if you go beyond copper you're basically doing it just because, not because you want to be able to craft something fancy for your base, or make minecarts, or anything like that.

Overall, I love Vintage Story and plan on playing it for a long time, keeping it in my "always worth playing/replaying" list (I'm still playing it, I just wanted to get a review out). The dev seems very active, has a good roadmap and, from what I can tell, does a good job of working towards completing it. But, even if development of the game stopped today, I think it would be well worth the price and you would get a lot out of it. Plus, it has native mod support and a fairly active mod community, so like any other mod-heavy game you have tons of options once you get through what the base game offers.

I can't think of a single game that has captured my attention like this one has. The initial learning curve is steeper than you might be expecting, especially if you're coming here from Minecraft, but completely worth it, and constantly evolving as Anego Studios continues to support the game and release a major content update every few months. The developers are actively involved in the community, and the community itself (on the official forums and the discord server) is very friendly and helpful.

TL;DR: this game makes crafting your first pickax feel like a true earned accomplishment. Highly recommend.

So, after first finding this on YouTube and thinking it was a Minecraft mod, I was really happy to find out it was not!
After playing the game for about 100h non-stop and barely entering the Bronze Age, I'll probably be playing this for years!

 image_2023-07-05_161027308.png.959fdd6e99d67950ddadd13539984501.png

TLDR
This game is very complex, but everything you learn/discover gives you a great since of accomplishment.
Even the hardest thing so far, which was learning the Prospecting mechanics (Finding Ores), became fun and rewarding.

Its a really great survival game with interesting gameplay and crafting systems and also gives you a lot of tools for customizing your builds.

More details on what to like
- Being a voxel game, it still has detailed items and props that make the world feel complex and interesting.
- Chisel mechanic!!! This basically allows you to model some blocks like wood and stone, and mix them together!
image_2023-07-05_162612321.png.6045ae73ed7586a272f6b3442a51055c.png
- The mechanics are very complex but easy to learn. Also you have a handy survival guide always at hand;
- Built in shaders and live environments;
- Immersive first person view (which has a toggle option);
- Well done sound design (From footsteps to weather sounds);
- Game runs really well, lots of graphic options to adjust;
- From what I can tell, game development is very much alive with a good planned future for the game;
- Also a good live community with servers and mods;
- MP servers or LAN options as well (One account per user);

Overall, if you're looking for that kind of game to play, focused on just having your little corner and surviving, or creating a whole village with lore, with good atmosphere and interesting gameplay, this is it!
Mind you, making a village will take a lot of time 😅

This is my house, entry please.

Big things are on the horizon for this game. I already got well over 100 hours, and they're not even close to done yet.

If you're a survival fan, and a minecraft fan (even though it is widely different from minecraft). This is a MUST buy!

Good job team, keep up the great work and thank you for making this masterpiece.

I've been looking for a modern replacement for Minecraft with Terrafirma craft or SevTech mods.. Finally found it in Vintage story.  and it looks Glorious plays well and is similary but better than those two mods in Minecraft, and its modable to boot. Written in C# and uses OpenGL and .Json files . currently still in early access and is extremely playable already. It has a great community with active forums, discord server and great tutorials on Youtube and Twitch , Having a great time playing and exploring Vintage Story and highly recommend it to others who love this type of game.

What I love about Vintage Story.

First it´s indie. And before you say, yeah but looks like another boring Minecraft clone. It´s not!
Sure you can place blocks like in Minecraft and you have a crafting system, but this game goes a little further. The crafting system feels more “realistic” and resources feel more valuable. Of course it has still some issues in this phase of development, like spawning under water. But I´m sure they are going to fix things like that. The world feels very natural and alive with all those animals and swinging leaves. When you want a knife you even have to chisel your blade, which is pretty neat. And you cannot carry really much before having a basket or later a backpack. All together it feels very alive and natural. I like that. (Especially the textures)

What are cool features I noticed so far?

Weather effects like fog, wind and of course rain.
It´s more challenging than Minecraft.
Light is far more important, because the night gets really dark.
You need to preserve food.
You can find ruins and NPC´s with little houses. (you cannot grief them, which I find cool)
Many world options, like temperature resistance or even building height. (building height has an effect on chunk loading)

What I don´t like at the moment:

the clouds look still a bit odd.
it´s sometimes hard to understand how things work. (but that could be me)

Conclusion: If you liked Minecraft but felt like it could be more realistic or just better, with more features, without installing endless mods. You need try Vintage Story!

Just insanely cool, deep, and rewarding survival experience start to finish. The game is also VERY stable as far as PC games go. You'll start looking for rocks to make your first knife and finish carving a temple out of a mountain before plunging into the depths to uncover secrets of the caves below. ... Be sure to be patient when ordering - it's real people answering the emails and handing out the codes, so it might not be as instantaneous as we are used to with other virtual purchases.

If you are reading reviews you need to just BUY THE GAME you will NOT be disappointed!

...Regarding multiplayer in a game this deep: Fair warning, unless you plan to have friends start with you on your own dedicated server - chances are that you will not be able to "cooperate" very much with others. Sure you can trade, and chat, and little favors here and there for each other are nice and all... but as far as meeting people and tackling challenges together - I've found that MANY different kinds of people play this game, of all ages, and it makes for a bit of a random and accordingly less wholesome experience. This game is best played with others, but many of the public servers and such are just heavily on their own way about everything - and most simply don't care if you are there or not - since they CAN'T care in some ways anyhow, being that it's THEIR project and it's a videogame, so people will come and go and never be seen again, many of them. I joined a handful of discords and servers, and there aren't anyone in the voice channels, if there are - it's a building game - so everyone is just heavily on their own grind. It's just part of life with multiplayer in a sandbox game like this.

So, just a heads up. I kind of hoped I would find some friends in this game but that didn't happen, and at this point I don't really play - because I really need that multiplayer feeling ... I hope at some point I can meet some normal folks like me who want to cooperate and play together - but you can't fake the funk as they say, not everyone will be good friends just because they play the same video games!

10/10, would give five star, but seeing as game is still early access and lots of features are likely to change or be added I figured I'd hold off on giving it a full five stars. Would recommend this game to anyone that enjoys the voxel genre and wants something more in-depth and complex compared it it's many counter parts like Minecraft, Boundless, etc.

Seriously it's definitely worth the price tag and there are constant updates, would buy for my friends AGAIN and then some!
