Wasn't sure where to post this, since rarely do I use forums or chat here.

I've encountered an issue since last night that is the; "Could not connect to master server"

My firewall is set up properly, I turned off my firewall, I allowed exceptions, I run Windows 10, I did update Net, I reinstalled the game, Port Forwarding is clear since I can host the game and people connect just fine.

Am I missing something here? I'd appreciate some help.

(Issue was resolved magically, so you can ignore this.)

Here's some strong irony, after I made this post I went to the game and restarted it and it started working... I've been at this for like 15 minutes and now it works after I post? I might just become a Drifter at this point...

I too have this problem. But for me the problem hasn't resolved itself. It's crazy, I just want to play online. No one seems to respond to me. Reddit, here... damn.

Did you ever resolve it?

Having this issue right now, it's weird it seems to work when I put a VPN on

I'm also having this issue, client-main.txt just tells me, "Failed retrieving master server list at url https://masterserver.vintagestory.at/api/v1/servers/list". The URL looks right, my firewall settings have been made to allow vintage story to connect through, no VPN on or anything, reinstalled today as well to try to fix it.

Additionally, I can't connect to any server, as the connection is always refused by the target machine, even when windows defender firewall is completely turned off...

I ran into this as well and after a bit of troubleshooting managed to figure out why the issue was happening to me. By running Vintage Story from my terminal and looking at the output after trying to pull the server list, I could see that it was trying to query https://masterserver.vintagestory.at/api/v1/servers/list for the server list but was timing out after only 10 seconds. I slapped that address in a browser and managed to get a rather large JSON object containing connection details for a lot of servers but it took more than 10 seconds to download the full list. So I went ahead and increased the "webRequestTimeout" value in my clientsettings.json file to a value that would give my system enough time to download the full list and tried again with resounding success. I can't say for sure that this is the cause of the issue for everyone else here but I hope that this helps.

Also, if the devs are reading this, I think you might want to consider pagination to avoid downloading the full list of servers every time and ensure that results can be returned in a reasonable amount of time.
