As an option to make a queue that players can wait to enter the server. If the expansion of the official server is costly, I suggest that the admins made premium subscriptions and so on that players with premium to enter without queuing.
Kosti Posted October 28, 2024 Report Posted October 28, 2024 I doubt its about the cost, rather the lag - just like any other game a large ammount of players = lag, and the only way to prevent this is to build a super costly high-latest tech gen server with the best parts and maintain it yourself, the part of maintaining would be easy for them, but building such a machine is like SUPER expensive, the only other option is to turn it somehow into shards? But since there's no world border and it's not mini games that's also impossible, IG we'll have to do with it for now, if anything maybe open a second official server for new players? Even if just temporary and have it close when the influx stops (or the influx never stops and the second server stayes on forever?!) And just keep release the save file to the public once the server closes?

For example, the server could handle tasks that create high loads, like chunk loading, in a multithreaded way. This has already been implemented in Minecraft server cores, allowing for multi-core servers capable of hosting hundreds or even thousands of players. I’m not familiar with the server system in VS, so I don’t know what’s under the hood there. But multithreading could efficiently distribute the load. Plus, as I understand it, the game is written in C#, which has no issues with multithreading at all.

The issue is how to divide a world going for milions of blocks, best they can easily do is in 2 or 4, but I think it will be very technically difficult + it would probably require a load time moving from one server to the other
