MadSeraph Posted March 7, 2025 Report Posted March 7, 2025 There are many abandoned mods out there with no license attached to them. In the US this is an implicit "All Rights Reserved". This may or may not be the intent of the creator of the mod. New modders are often unfamiliar with or not even considering copyright and licensing when they publish. To help encourage selecting and attaching a license to a mod, I would suggest adding a license field to the modinfo.json file. To help serve the purpose of encouraging adopting a license, I also propose the license be displayed on both the in game Mod Manager and the portal with a warning similar to the version warning when the field is not present. The hope is this will lead to less confusion and more mods able to be forked when abandoned by encouraging authors to consider the license when creating their mod. 1
