Need advice on travelling to the Forlorn Hope tower

I'm a relatively new player and I just got my hands on a map to the Forlorn Hope tower. It's about ~15000 blocks east of my current base. I'd love to travel there, but I have some questions about launching an expedition. Right now it's September, Year 1.

Should I wait to make the trip until I have an elk or a boat? What season is best for travelling? About how long will it take to cover that distance? Should I bring a temporal gear to reset my spawn once I arrive at the tower? How much food do I need to bring? What kind of armor/weapons would you bring for the best chance of success?

Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated :]

I recently made a trip to the Resonance Archives and decided to add some tips! The journey was about 5,000 blocks. I made the trip in May because wild crops would be growing, the would be plenty of animals out, and berries would be ripe again. I brought a pie and lots of charred bread. Come late spring, you can start your traveling around 3 or 4 in the morning and keep going until around 10pm, or 20:00 hours. It took me about a day and a half to cover the distance. If you have the inventory space, I would advise that you bring a cooking pot and a bowl so you can make meals if you need to. To explore the resonance archives you need at least tin bronze lamellae armor, but for the walk down I just wore leather armor.

The journey to the Forlorn Hope Tower is a lot farther, and depending on how much food I can gather, I might wait until later in the year to make the trip. Hopefully this helps those of you out there who, like me, were a little hesitant to leave home.
