Hafthohlladung Posted April 23, 2025 Report Posted April 23, 2025 Quote - Tweak: Increased illumination levels of block light, from torches etc. (only client side visual effect, does not alter mob spawn) Not really seeing any discussion of this aspect of the latest update, but for me they've turned the brightness up way too far. I guess the intent was to reduce the occurance of dark patches/corners etc, but the new levels seem to erase any subtlelty to torch light arrangements. With the immediate surrounding blocks just getting an unrealistic blast of yellow/orange light that does not compliment the textures at all. I'd prefer if it went back to how it was before, but at the very least I think it definately needs to be dialled back a bit. What does everyone else think? 2
Arasine Posted April 23, 2025 Report Posted April 23, 2025 I agree with you, torches are too bright now. Best case would be being able to adjust the number of sticks and dry grass when making torches, which would then affect their brightness. I would also love an adjustment knob for the lantern, so we can raise and lower the flame too. 2

Danger Goat Posted April 26, 2025 Report Posted April 26, 2025 idk about anyone else but my base was spawn free before the update, but after the update half my base is able to spawn drifters and I might as well be out in the open

I imagine your idea about the torches would be difficult to configure when making multiple batches of them, but as for Lanterns yes some sort of adjustment would be an interesting addition. 1
Asmodan Posted April 26, 2025 Report Posted April 26, 2025 I like the Lights in 1.20.9. But i am new to the Game and did not really experienced it before. I started with Version 1.20.7 and it felt too dark for me. I had also spawns in my Base in the Night after updating to 1.20.9 while everything was pretty lit up. 1
An Sar Posted June 8, 2025 Report Posted June 8, 2025 A world config option, or similar, would be nice to be able to retain the original value.
Guimoute Posted June 11, 2025 Report Posted June 11, 2025 I do not know about the visual change specifically but would like to raise a related point: this game suffers from the same thing Minecraft does. You need light everywhere to be safe. It breaks the atmosphere of your settlement. You need *a lot* more light that the sources you would place logically around buildings. Nadiya does not have as much light because it doesn't spawn mobs as it's a story location, and it's beautiful. I wish players could do that too without needing lamp posts everywhere. To be clear, I have changed the spawning requirements of drifters from light level 7 and under to exactly 0, I still need light everywhere, just 1/3 fewer lanterns.
