Knapt Posted June 17, 2025 Report Posted June 17, 2025 Dynamic Paths and Tracks: Trampled Terrain Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking about a feature that I believe would fit really well into the immersive and detail-rich world of Vintage Story. Picture this: You're walking through a field of tall grass. As you pass, the grass gets pressed down under your feet, leaving a trail behind you. If you keep using the same route day after day, the grass no longer regrows, and a dirt path slowly forms—just from repeated use. Or maybe you're tracking a deer. You spot a faint trail through the underbrush and decide to follow it—only to discover it's not a deer, but a bear that left the path through the trampled grass. This system could work for both players and animals: Temporarily trampled vegetation that slowly regrows over time. Permanent paths are formed through frequent travel. Subtle animal trails allow players to track wildlife naturally by observing the environment, not through GUI elements. I’m not sure if this already exists in a mod (please let me know if it does!), but if not, maybe this could be an idea for a future game feature—or inspiration for a modder out there. Would love to hear your thoughts. —Michael 3
