Something pretty weird has happened to me.

So I found the static translocator underground. In fact, I think I found two! And the cave wasn’t far from my base, so like an absolute dummy idiot, I didn’t mark it on my map. I was able to find it a second time without issue.

But then I didn’t visit it again for a while. At least several days. I did a bunch of other things, foraging and growing crops and stuff. Eventually, I managed to find some of the materials required to repair it, so I went looking for it again.

I couldn’t find it.

I will fully admit, there’s the chance that I just keep walking right past it somehow. In fact, I’d like that to be the case. Still, I keep double and triple-checking caves, but I’ve never been able to find it again.

In addition, there are some hills further to the north that I don’t recall being there before? Which leads me to believe that there may have been geological activity somehow, and it buried it. Maybe. Is this possible?

Also, any tips on finding it again? Am I SOL unless I find a different one somewhere else?

EDIT: it looks like I might have misinterpreted the geologic or seismic activity settings. I’ll try looking again later, but I wouldn’t mind suggestions!

I believe you just keep passing it, there should be no such thing as world changing, that could create problems with player bases and such.
Geological activity as a whole means more hot springs, lava and such in your world.
But perhaps if you are using mods there may be one that is doing exactly what you described.

As for searching for the translocator, I guess you can logically dismiss some places by remembering what kind of rock was around it and how deep it was etc, and just keep looking for it, I'm sure you'll eventually find it!

I would fully explore caves/openings in the earth (even small ones) one by one, and after each one, mark on your map that you have fully explored it (and record anything interesting you found there). If you really did fully explore a cave by taking every passageway and looking for the small gaps in the wall where a translocator room would be, there won't really be any need to check it a second time. You can be sure that it wasn't that cave and can look elsewhere. Eventually you should either find the translocator you remember finding or a different one. Fully exploring every cave you find and using the map to keep track of which you've explored is almost a guaranteed way to find translocators.

And yeah, earthquakes aren't a thing, but if you are playing with sideways instability for soil/gravel/sand, there is always a chance that a landslide triggered by you or a mob buried it. If you aren't playing with that setting on, then there shouldn't be any way that the opening could have been buried.
