NEEX123 Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 I was thinking about how often herbs and spices are used in ancient cooking, for medicinal properties as well as flavour, and though it could be interesting if herbs and spices could be items that you could grow to aid in medicine and to put into food for buffs such as extra health, dealing with drunkeness or getting you down from being high from mushrooms, among many other ways it could be used. The other idea I had was simple hearthcakes, flour and water used to make a simple form of unlevened bread, and maybe a redo of bread and pastry making, where bread relies on yeast and pastry relies on fat. Yeast would come from leaving berries in a bowl for 5 days, giving 2 portions of yeast to be used to make 2 loafs of bread, whilst barm can be taken from making ale in particular and offer 10 portions of yeast for 10 loafs of bread, with levened bread and pastry requiring an oven to bake their goods. Hearthcakes would be the early form of this, only requirring water and grain and can be cooked in a fire to offer higher grain satiety than porridge, but lower than levened bread and pies.
