Mobs corpse despawn time

Some questions belonging together:

1. Are mob corpses "items"? (Found the "items.dll" and edited it)

2. How long does a e.g. drifter corpse take to despawn?

And the important one:

3. Where can i set a longer despawn time for mob corpses?

I only know a rough estimate to answer question number two. Hopefully someone can chime in with a better response.

From my observations, it takes about 5 minutes or so for a dead drifter to despawn. Other creatures, like animals, tend to hang around longer - actual in-game days, but the amount of resources you can get from them decreases, I think, over time.
