Note: I know you can edit a lot of the world configs and mine ores under copper. This is mostly what I experienced from the default world then changed settings to MY liking. 

Also the pro pick is useful I don't disagree that it isn't but let me tell you, it is very very hard to make it work correctly. I mean it says ore node nearby and mine is set to 6. I mine down and find nothing, now it becomes a game of cat and mouse. How high up is it? How low is it? Do I need to go NSEW? it waste a lot of time imo when just mining for ores is way more effective running across the map and trading for better pickaxes. Mining in this game is quite... useless? At least it made ME and my WIFE feel that way.

For the propick part, 6 radius mean 13x13x13 around the sample rock, 6 blocks up and down, right and left, front and behind. The right way to use note mode is finding a trace of that ore, than prospect around that first sample rock. If it showed nothing or less amount, than you know you are on the wrong way. If it you found more dense trace, means you are getting closer, the ore must be in that diraction.
