Has anyone tried digging to the other side of the world? Is that even possible? Ive been pondering this idea lol

Ive had multiple types of items suddenly and randomly disappear from my inventory and my chests. It is usually a stacked item that i have an abundance of. I dont believe any items ive placed in the world are disappearing - only items in my inventory and chests. Other than that, the game seems to run great.
