Okay I just fed them & they immediatly started brooding, so that's good news. Still wondering why they randomly changed color (and if there's a chance they die of old age before the new generation can be born).

A couple month ago (in-game) All my chickens & hens turned from brown & black to gray, and now the chickens seemingly refuse to brood (I guess they could be doing it behind my back? IDK). Is this just a cosmetic thing or have my chickens become too old to reproduce? I'm not sure if it's a climate thing, specially since they only turned *after* winter ended.

Would replacing the fencing with solid blocks help? Or can they detect through walls?

I've built a chicken jail right next to my base, and every time I leave/enter/exist I can hear my chickens running for their life. Is this causing them to not brood on the chicken box? My hen has eaten 3 portions does she just need more grain?
