I'm not much of a modder, but I was thinking about it and dual sticks are my favorite way to move in a virtual space. so, without turning off key board controls, I would enjoy enabling a controller for the dungeons and hunting particularly when I'm pairing combat overhaul. but I know very little about code. Before I start how 30 minutes to 3 weeks would such a coding adventure take? My only real condition of it would be making sure it can run client side, and I would'nt be concerned with figuring out making it work in menus

If you look into the x-ray mod it can highlight any natural block. It's not ideal, but it's a cheap way to find stuff when you are new.

I like this concept. The set "sessions" help mitigate the Unemployed vs overtime worker problem in survival game servers. I would think this would be better if it were a friend group playing compared to online strangers. More importantly, this concept was pitched toward the beginning of the month. Have you attempted to try it yet or was it idle thought?
