After seeing the posts about future options for transferring power through solid blocks i wondered if there was any way to do it in the current patch that just hadn't been documented, and i found a very finicky way.
Querns accept power from both the bottom and the top and are counted as an insulated block, so i figured out that if you first place a powered vertical axle, then a quern on top of it, then another axle or gear, the rotation will go through the quern and into the enclosed room!
From my testing it only works going upwards as the output axle needs to be placed while the quern is spinning, and the quern would just fall without a block under it, it also does not work from the sides as was rather expected however still sad, and finally it does break and require the axle to be removed and replaced any time the world is saved and reloaded.
Will this unintended feature become irrelevant when the next update drops? yes most likely. But for now it is, though finicky and a bit more power intensive than we'd all hope, it is a way to get power into your buildings.
Below (or wherever the photo appears) is my poorly taken photo of it transferring power both into and out of a room with a helve hammer powered on top and creative motor on the bottom, the room light up green thanks to the /debug rooms hi command showing this does indeed work.
