Def not dead they have been moving to a unity version. The newest update will be this month and a big one to so community is excited. If Minecraft and Secondlife/Opensim had a baby it would be Rising world. It has the potential to go far but for now is one of the best kept secrets of this type of genre. 

This is a great building game. I played the java a few years back and just waiting for the full unity to get back into it!
