Hey Congratz on your first post and for your find! Looks like there's an inconsistency somewhere in the code

Oh you've got a nice workflow! I also hate working in the dark haha before going to sleep though I put some stuff in a Pit Kiln so it's burning while I sleep hahaha

The art piece in my Cover Photo is "Skull Cave" by Quentin Mabille on Artstation:
ArtStation - Skull Cave -
In my current playthrough (it's my longest and has only been about 10 in game days) I have found more food than I even know what to do with! Granted it's mostly meat, mushrooms and berries and possibly just a really good spawn. Crops are quite sparse. This is not to say I don't agree with you! I think having more variety or uses for the otherwise purely decorative plants would be really cool! This part confused me as well. They should be the same. Grain is the seed that is also edible when used in cooking. Vegetables and Fruits (most of the time) or the seed you use to plant, of course with a bit of processing like maybe using your knife to cut out the seed from a peach or something. I'm looking forward to seeing some other responses! EDIT: Also Welcome to the forum!

Just wanted to share after 10 ingame days and about 2 weeks of playing (I've limited time) i acquired copper and made a Pickaxe for the very first time! This was very satisfying! Enjen_Mage on Tiktok EDIT: I made a mistake! It was not 10 in-game days, but longer! This video was on May 10th Year 0 (I don't know the default starting month )

I'm glad you highlighted that point haha At some point it does go into a bit of metagaming thinking of all the details of how a system could affect everything and how that in turn affects gameplay. I think it's fun though. So does the Rift emit some sort of gas or is it an instantaneous intoxication on a certain radius of "background " wildlife? If it's a gas maybe it moves around for a bit or spreads before dissipating. To be fair, if I saw something that was "intoxicated" my first instinct would be to break it I would try to see what I could craft with it or if it dropped anything differently. I would assume intoxicated dirt block would be different than a regular block? and so on for the leaves and other flora. Purely cosmetic or perhaps useful in some poison extraction? just throwing ideas out. I think this is a suitable explanation. Multi-layered. I was about to mention some idea for a different genus of crop that it could turn into! I scrolled back up and saw you already mentioned it haha! It's sort of like radioactive farming. Maybe Rust fungus could be used in some recipe for Rusty Gears. but then again I feel that being able to craft Rusty Gears goes against the story. So in turn, maybe Rusty Fungus can OO It can be applied to Arrow Tips and Spear tips for a sort of poisoning effect? or Slowness effect to coincide with the whole Temporal theme.

LOL Yeah hahah quite the choice of word there but I understand. I think that'd be quite cool! Little "minions" or "Assistants" of sorts. Maybe something similar to the golems from Thaumcraft in that other block game! That sounds like a fun project to figure out actually Now that the elk is in the game I'm sure using that code to make a tameable controllable creature should be easier than starting from scratch(?)

Darn, that is unfortunate! I'm planning to host a server and have it running through a Serer Hosting Site of my choice and if the player base is anything like me, I play only a few hours across 3 days a week. Food Spoilage could definitely be a game changer. From my testing, the server seems to already pause itself when no players are online! The problem lies when there are people online and others are not. Thanks for suggesting these! If anything, I could look at them and develop my own mod for what I'm looking for Thanks Lady!

Hey all! Reviving this little post here. Has there been a concrete way to slow down food spoilage without affecting the days? I was going to make a Mod Suggestion post but then found this one. Or perhaps like OP was suggestion, a way to tie a player being logged on to their food spoilage within their own claimed plot? Is this plausible? I am not a modder and not even close to being a programmer (yet) so I'm not sure how difficult this would be to implement.

Hey! Welcome to the forum Glad to have you onboard. Glad to have another lover of this wonderful game. o7

Wow! Yes like @traugdor said mic-drop moment! Very well put and concise.

I'd like to add that "re" just means to do again. Rebalance just means to balance again. Often times a rebalance does follow an unbalanced mechanic but it's not a prerequisite. As far as I know at least.
-
I agree! I was told of a Disease Mod (no ill will to the creator) that does not sound fun in the slightest. But I wasn't equating Complexity to fun. Nor was I alluding for it to add realism. OP did suggest these ideas based on his real life experience in farming, but it doesn't need to be "realistic". It's a system that can be added for those that are dedicated to their farms. Not affecting the "Basic" level of farming that would be equivalent to the system in place today. That's not it lol respectfully I'm implying it'd be catered to those who like the farming. Basic farming would essentially be the same. and in the same respect this could be applied to other overhauls as well! Weapon Smithing, Claymaking, Cooking, Herbalism (when implemented). I hope I'm making sense lol It's not just being added just for the sake of adding it. It's giving a more advanced layer for those that really enjoy that specific Profession. I will note, what I have been explaining seems to have branched off differently from what Rudometkin was supporting. If implemented like this I think it'd work in most peoples favor. Thoughts?

Hi! New player here; first impressions and a personal gripe
Enjen replied to CynAq's topic in Discussion
Hahaha it's the translation from TOBG to Vintage Story. It could just be glossed over and referred to as what those creators were used to calling "hunger" in their previous block game. Despite it being called satiation in this game -
But then we'd have to ask what's the point? I'm sure the overhaul aims to add complexity and reward those that are more dedicated to their farms. To be frank, it's sounds like you'd be okay with the game just becoming easier? please correct me if I'm reading into that incorrectly.
-
This part! It's good to have critique, objections and concerns, but it doesn't invalidate it. Not Every idea can be implemented, but we should treat each idea with its own respect. I also agree with the notion that "(Vintage Story) is not so dependent on its potential fanbase". It's thrived this many years already and continues to grow! I was just going to add a reaction but I've reached my reaction limit for the day
-
Ahhh I understand what you're saying. Then in that case the expanded Farming could then cater to those more dedicated to improving their farms while Still maintaining the current system of farming. a Sort of Basic and Advanced Farming mechanic at the same time. To activate "Advanced Farming" Maybe there is a certain Temporal Dust (or something lololol) that your spread on your farmland that makes weeds start to grow and diseases more prominent BUT your yields are MUCH higher because your crops are "Temporally Tampered" or some other Temporal term lololol I appreciate you too! And yes! although I don't think @FelixDR has been very active on the forums it's a good thing we have everyone else here to flesh it out and point out the inconsistencies!
-
I see! I must've glossed over this at some point. That's probably why I have to eat so often! I've eaten nothing but berries and Vegetable stews preeeaaach hahaha that's the truth This is false actually! Initially yes there was not increase or reward and seemed to only increase the complexity for complexities sake, however Rudometkin did suggest (this morning in fact) that those who don't play into the systems will still receive crops, but their yield would be average and someone who uses the system to it's fullest would reap much more for their hard work. That is, if I understood it correctly. Here's the quote:

I apologize, I did disregard your comment of "being forced", that's my bad. On that note, I'm not implying my choice should be the default I was just countering your comment about it not being fun. Like I've mentioned before I'd be scared of a Farming Overhaul if the idea were implemented as is and not refined and balanced for all levels of progressions. From beginning, middle and End game. Although after giving it more thought I don't understand what you mean specifically by being forced? Alot of mechanics are present that I supposed "Force" players to play a certain way. I think it's up to the player to see the available systems in-game and play how they want to play. With that being said, I don't think it's the job of the game to cater to every type of player. Not saying that's what you're saying but did want to bring that up. Genuine question: is farming a requirement for a playthrough to succeed as the game is now? Could someone do a Carnivore diet and still be fine playing the game? Does the game force the player to farm or does it just make it easier and give variety for food stuffs?
-
I'm sorry your expectations of his familiarity of the game was not to your standard. But he was not being dismissive. Infact he was engaging you and Lady with questions to your critiques and concerns.
-
There is quite a difference. He elaborated on what part exactly made you feel offended and genuinely (at least to me) seemed to mean it. There is no need to insult my comprehension when I have not been rude to you. Please calm down.
-
It is! An informed opinion is probably the best kind of opinion. What I'm saying is he doesn't need to have tons of experience with the system in order to want to share an idea. I apologize, I think my message was a little confusing what I was trying to say was "I'd like to ask, is every overhaul suggestion a question to Tyron's developer mind" I wasn't referring to Rudometkin having a developer mind. I don't know anything about him.
-
I'd like to start off by saying @Rudometkin I appreciate how fleshed out your responses are. They touch on many points and question the objections directly. You're replies are a bit abrasive, although at this point with how directly @LadyWYT and @Thorfinn (more so Thorfinn than LadyWYT) are attacking you and your experience in the game directly instead of your idea and debating that, I feel that abrasiveness is warranted... and still I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) have not mentioned their character or your opinion of them.. ^ I understand you bring up his YouTube channel to question his experience in the game, but even still what does his experience have to do with the idea (that he didn't come up with mind you, he only supported it and expanded on it as time progressed) that is being suggested? Someone can see a mechanic and be sparked with inspiration and want to share their idea. With how fiercely it's being shot down rather than wondering "How could this work if it were implemented in the base game." It's so negative and not at all inclusive. I may be in the camp that if this complex system farming overhaul were in the game as is I'd be afraid of it, However that will not stop me from entertaining and toying with the idea of such a cool suggestion! Let's talk about it! Let's talk about what works and doesn't work how we were in the beginning and stick to that. At some point I feel it got personal, and it seems to have started from the point when Rudometkin was questioning LadyWYT's criticisms. It's okay to question and break down an idea into its key parts. It keeps the conversation going and refines the best parts of it. ^ I don't recall Rudometkin question Tyron's ability as a game designer. I'd like to ask, is every overhaul suggestion a question to his developer mind? Of course, not that's ridiculous and I have no clue where you got this notion from. This is what I mean, where is this negativity coming from?? ^ LadyWYT, I'd like to preface I do have a respect for your responses and your activity around the forum, but my opinion of you or anyone else here is irrelevant to the discussion. It itsn't unusual at all for suggestions to be flawed. I think when cool ideas are shared, they have many flaws or didn't consider exact pain points or how it would affect other systems. That's where the discussion comes in. I do believe Rudometkin addressed your concerns quite directly and met them with counter questions. Even just this morning with his first reply of the day. The inverse of what you are saying could also be true. You could suggest how a certain part of the idea could work even within the same message that you are breaking it down (which you did do together, turning Spontaneous Crop Death into a Plant Diseases Mechanic). ^ Then let's have fun with it on paper! Haha, let's talk about how it could work and how it could not work. Which the forum did start off as such, ^ On the contrary. I believe it's you and Thorfinn that refuse to find common ground, at least now. ^ There is a stark difference in how you apologized and how Rudometkin apologized earlier in the thread. ^ Yes! and that is exactly my qualm with this whole exchange. At some point it got personal and now the suggestion that OP made is buried at the beginning. There is nothing wrong with criticism, I encourage it but be ready for some fight back! Get ready for some debate. Have an open mind and stick to the idea at hand. ^ That is true, just in this thread alone there are more people against it than for it, myself included as I mentioned before. My issue is just the straight dismissal of it and the audacity to say "welp, make a mod for it" rather than entertaining the idea and possibly help fleshing it out. Why don't YOU want this in the game? What part of it turns you away from it specifically. Then the one suggesting it can say "Okay well maybe we can tweak the idea this way" You get what I'm saying? ^ What makes Vintage Story better than other games is it's complexity and slow-paced mechanics. What is truly the matter with suggesting a more complex system in an already complex game? and l ike you said a Limited experience doesn't make an idea less valid. I don't know what you mean by "gives them less weight", as the idea is only as heavy as it's proposed I suppose? He defends his claims and questions the critiques. ^ The idea doesn't discourage exploration. It would change how much you had to respect and care for your farm that's for sure and I agree that the idea as is needs work if it were to be implemented, that's what the discussion is for. It'd need to be balanced in a way where it can be utilized at all levels of progression. There isn't inherently anything wrong with wanting more from a system. In your subtext you forgot to mention that it is "NOT fun to me" May be sharing a bit too much here but I actually enjoy being base mom. My wife and sibling are more the type to go explore and fight and get into all sorts of danger. Just an example of people having different playstyles. It's dangerous to generalize and just dismiss an idea based on your playstyle rather than entertaining the idea and suggesting fixes/issues or pointing out conflicting mechanics with said idea.

Yes! You are correct! I've been trying to contribute when it feels right I did utilize the like button quite a bit! But apparently there is a limit on reactions!!! O: Very poetic! Thank you
