  1. temporal gears, you know the blue glowy ones
  2. I don't know how many people "tweak" the world generation. But you can basically get rid of a ton of danger if you put on settings that would make it easier for you to play. Now bear in mind that if you put mob hostility to passive and attack a wolf (or if it is hunger?), it will still attack you. You can to some degree weaken them, you can also weaken temporal storms. I think you can also make them harder too. Just go with your skill level and what you are comfortable playing, as you get better at the game you can increase the threat levels. Also, if you're playing in an existing world, you can use commands to change these settings. I have had to turn off temporal storms since it would be no fun to trigger a seizure irl, and it does make getting some items harder so keep that in mind.
  3. This reminds me of my game session last night! I was chopping a tree, in the woods listening to wolves howling in the background and seeing surface drifters walking around oddly not attacking???? And I got spooked, so when I felled the tree, I ran back to my base... Only too narrowly miss falling into a deep pit that I just happened to jump over. I don't have block instability on as this has been a problem for me. Just peacefully walking along in a nice meadow or plains like area and then you find yourself falling into a death pit full of drifters, wolves or bears!
  4. I learned to make the soup from the handbook, while the 1L would be a nice edition; using the handbook is very essential and should not be ignored. The handbook is not a cheat in fact; without it you'll be hard pressed to advance simply just looking at the metal alloy formulas. I am constantly consulting it mainly for the meal recipes as I tend to have a few days between play sessions. From a development standpoint, the message would be nice from a player perspective but, how would you even code that? You would have to guess what the player wanted to make and that's just a guess. They might see those same ingredients and then assume you wanted to make meat stew instead. Frankly, I use those display messages to go "it makes a meal" and half the time I don't bother to read the full message for what meal it's making. Just look at the meal making guide as a simple cookbook, it gives the jist but not much else. Just move the ingredients around till it resembles the base recipe shown.
  5. Yeah, the community, wiki and youtubers have been very helpful. I just have never had a game that you needed this much work to play before. Now that I am making progress and am able to play it, it's so much fun! Learning the game is well worth it, I would have just liked a small note and maybe a pause menu to read the in-game handbook in single-player. But all nit picking aside, I can still say that I am learning the game. I don't know half of the terms that the community uses but I think if I play Vintage Story a bit more than I will get there.
  6. So, did anyone else have to spend time, not in the game, to simply learn the game? I have spent a bit of time learning about the game. I can finally play the game! I guess I was very unlucky, because I spawned by a wolf spawning area. After some cool down time, and finding my login info, I started learning the game. I watched a few, limited youtubers, for some more ideas on how to play the game. But seriously Vintage Story is way difficult and thankfully I found in world creation how to make creatures passive and weaker. Yet, I was almost killed by a boar who came into my home... wow, bad luck notwithstanding, I am finally making progress.
  7. It would be nice if the game had a world for people who are new and not amazing at combat. Maybe for people who do better on farm sims, despite how fun this game sounds; it so far is the WORST game I have! The drifters do NOT walk away in daylight and EVERY game I have played; WOLVES have camped out in front of my house! Maybe there should be a combat scale so you can reduce the combat if you need to. As of right now this combat is messed up and I feel like I must play with other people! Too bad you don't put down, MULTIPLAYER IS REQURIED! If you only want the best of the best of the best of Minecrafters' to play this game, well that is a very very small niche market... and you should state as much. I had an easier time playing the Super Hostile mod for Minecraft and I don't play that mod. The people who yell the loudest make the game harder are the smallest group. I am getting grieved by in game wolves. It's as bad as wolves killed me at my house and when I spawned they were at my spawn point and killed me again!
