Thanks, it was about 4 hours of chiseling and I'm still planning to work more on the corners haha Your windmill looks really nice! granite and claystone compliment each other pretty well, maybe that could be used as an accent? I did find a fair amount of lead below the surface ores but nearly all of it went to the windows that are already on the windmill lol, theres close to 300 panes on it already so i've burnt through quite a bit
-
it's hard to fit the whole thing on a screenshot so here's a few lol. i plan on adding leaded glass to each floor once I get enough lead, and may replace the chiseled portions around the windows with a light brown inlay (claystone, maybe?) I also want to round out the edges of the building on the Z axis but haven't found a shape I like yet. i'm sort of regretting my choice of pine for the panes, but it would take even longer to get the lead to replace them all I've gotten all the surface lead I found, and prospecting hasn't left me optimistic about my odds of finding any more

i prioritized efficiency over aesthetics when building my windmills, but now am wanting to dress them up. problem is, i have no idea what to do with all that height. i'm interested to see what others have done for theirs

i'm fairly sure you still can, haven't tested since the 1.21.6 update but didn't see any notes about bear drowning being removed. i usually spear them to death after luring them into a lake rather than waiting for them to drown, their AI seems to get wonky in water so it's much easier than on land (though i'm sure this will be fixed at some point)

that's what i was afraid of, thanks for the answer. hopefully they'll add the ability in a future update

RatKing0 started following deep cave spawn rates and How to change dry stone orientation?
-
I'm currently playing around with different stone types, but am having quite an issue with dry stone. I'm trying to get the entire floor to have the same orientation, but am unable to change the face of the blocks no matter what I try. rotating with the wrench and chisel tool don't change which face is up like they do with other blocks, and i've placed them from every direction i can manage without luck. i've also tried removing the walls in the corner in case they were somehow throwing off the orientation, to no avail.
-
I'm not OP, but it looks like mostly conglomerate drystone with chiseled pine planks around the quern
-
usually by the time i can start building a tower they're climbing it and and hitting me off not to mention the couple of times i accidentally drove them closer to my animal pens rather than farther away from them

black bears are the only ones i can handle, i regularly die to brown bears. haven't encountered a polar bear yet but i'm sure i'd die to them too. at a minimum i think there should be a mechanic to startle the bears and cause them to flee (with a % chance of that failing), similar to how people are advised to handle bear encounters in real life.

I tried this in an empty cart I found and it seems like the whole thing may be bugged in my case? The character laid down and closed their eyes, but time never passed while they were laying down, instead the clock froze. when they got up, I was unable to sleep again as if a full sleep cycle had passed. playing in 1.21.4

oop, I got my numbers mixed up in my post - i'm on 1.21.5 thank you for the info!

All of the caves in my world seem to be affected by the current rift activity level, except for one that is constantly flooded with very strong monsters. i've resorted to going into creative to try to thin them out becuase there's often over 20 roaming around, but more spawn as i'm doing so. is there a certain y level where rift activity is not factored into spawn rates anymore? if so, why would the mine that tunnels into the cave not also be swarmed (aside from what was coming out of the cave)? the mine and cave are lit the same (that is, poorly), and i can't even enter the cave to try to light it up because 6-8 monsters attack the second i pass the gate i'm using to contain them. currently playing on 1.21.5 edit: while doing another creative mode pass through the cave i found a bellhead shiver, and am now wondering if he's the reason for all the spawns. I was under the impression they'd make a noise similar to the bells when they were rallying more monsters, though?

i settled near spawn, so freezes start in October and end around March. moving south will bring you to warmer climates with shorter freezes
