  1. I just started playing vintage story and have been having an incredible time, I'm about 60 hours into my modded nomap playthrough using the cartography mod. This game is seriously beautiful, it's so easy to get lost walking around looking at mountains and picking flowers. Especially with nomap, and the river mod, I haven't felt this immersed in a game in forever. Something about this game that kinda surprised me was just how scary this game is, the enemies are horrifying without even trying. I think some kind of sub-aquatic content could be incredibly interesting and it would fit with the steam-punk/eldrich horror theme. I've always had somewhat of an obsession with water, the deeper the better, I made one of my first houses in minecraft under water and it took me forever. Ever since I played subnautica for the first time I thought "This is the genre we've been waiting for, this is so scary and cool" and I imagined there would be minecraft modpacks made that would build on the concept. Many were released and I truly tried them all, but it always just felt boring on a fundamental level, the water wasn't deep, the monsters weren't scary, it didn't feel like an alien world. Subnautica's base building was incredibly cool to me but It never felt like you were free to build whatever you wanted, there was little room for creativity because of the number of premade building pieces. No man's sky also tried making under-water content but faced the same problems minecraft did, the water was shallow and empty. I've tried a lot of games trying to scratch this sub-aquatic eldrich horror craving . The abyss from terraria calamity mod, the city from bioshock, iron lung, Biolum VR, I think Vintage Story is uniquely perfect for this highly specific genre, it would be an incredible gameplay experience. There is a mod in development "Abyssal Depths" but it is one of the only aquatic mods in the DB, and it is also a single author who made it for a comission. I would make the mod myself if I knew anything about making mods and am honestly thinking of learning how to mod just to make something. I think introducing a tag for aquatic mods in the DB (or like a competiton?) could be a good start, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for what kind of things would fit this elusive "sub aquatic eldrich horror" idea. ideas for progression: rivers, coral reefs, submerged caves, aquifers, cenotes, Ocean, trench. each of these could have a polar/tropical/normal variant. maybe like, magma tubes and a secret subterranean ocean like in the calamity mod. Also love the idea of different tiers of diving suits/marine vehicles and resources.
