That's because every space is used! I've always like having buildings have a purpose and to not cram too much purpose into any single building. Definitely not optimized but makes each build feel worth it to start new content the game has to offer.

Just make sure not to use any wood within 2 blocks of any pit, I have fences and sand to separate any grass from growing too close as well

Heres my pit kiln layout. Still havent gotten a beehive kiln put together yet but I can Fire 15 vessels at the same time.

After one in game year my base is really starting to come together! Still working on getting enough flax for a windmill and a barn for some pigs I have trapped (Havent found goats yet so no cheese for me)
