I think I've found the solution. After reinstalling, I noticed that the middle mouse button was mapped to LMB as well. I think maybe this was causing some kind of overlap that wasn't registering LMB clicks. I bound the middle button properly and launched my game, and now everything seems to work. I'm not sure why the middle button was mapped this way in default, but at least this seems to be a solution? I can knap properly without needing to rebind and also harvest items, so it looks like I can finally play the game
