I (intentionally) have soil instability and cave-ins enabled. I know how the system is supposed to work. What I'm confused about is why entire cliffsides are coming down in landslides seemingly at random

My world is just hitting winter for the first time, and all of a sudden, random cliffs just have their soil layers collapse out of nowhere, with a bunch of soil conga lines off in the distance as the game tries to process this. At first I thought it was because of a rift that had opened on the first cliff I noticed this on, but then I saw particles on far off cliffs that would randomly collapse when I got close enough. What could be causing this? Is it maybe the grass on these blocks dissapearing?
