How do I make armor stands hold spears?

I've seen in videos and in the "De-Jank and Game Juice Update (1.17.0-pre.1)" that armor stands can hold spears but I'm unable to make it work. What am I doing wrong or is there a mod I have installed that is preventing my armor stands from holding a spear? I'm playing on version 1.17.9.
