CaribouKai Posted September 18, 2024 Report Posted September 18, 2024 I'm at my wit's end. I had my windmill set up with my quern and it worked like a dream. Got the mats to make a helve hammer and no matter what I try, it refuses to run. Gear will be going like crazy in gale or near gale winds, but the second I engage the clutch, I might get 4 hammers out of it if I'm lucky before it comes to a full stop. Tried without the transmission and clutch and it wouldn't move either. Am I missing something?
Solution Brady_The Posted September 18, 2024 Solution Report Posted September 18, 2024 I am by no means a power expert, but from my understanding you are converting torque into speed with this setup, which the helve hammer can't utilize. In order to have a working helve hammer you have two options: a) Replace the large gear with a small one. Spoiler b) Use the central shaft of the large gear as the output, instead of the rim.
