Now that 1.20 is officially out, sort of, I can finally demand the thing that I'm sure everybody will be grateful for the sooner it's implemented. Somewhat spoilers below that I won't even bother hiding, you know what you're getting when you opened the thread.

ADD AN OPTION TO SWIM AUTOMATICALLY INSTEAD OF FORCING US TO HOLD THE 'W' BUTTON! The elk mount got such a feature built in via a nifty mechanic (a different bridle type) and it is VERY quality-of-life and accessibility friendly. Why didn't the sailboat get something like that...? I'm not even expecting a mechanic like a different sail or something, anything will do that spares my poor finger (or, more accurately, spares me from using an external program/script that 'pushes' the button for me). Sailing to distant islands/continents takes hours - REAL LIFE HOURS, PLURAL - I really don't think we need to manually be moving the sailboat while absolutely nothing is happening in game except it... sailing...

I also vehemently believe that it needs to be faster. Like 50% faster. I didn't do any specific testing, but it feels as slow as the raft. Maybe a little faster. This means that the only advantage of the sailboat is the storage space (which is VERY welcome for long-distance expeditions, I won't deny).

Why did you wait? This should have gone IN 1.20, not 1.21 :P

I used the boat mod when I briefly played 1.98 and it had better mechanics (speed from wind, auto sailing, could walk around on it), even if the new vanilla boat is way cooler.

I think it (the mod) was decently fast, not to mention as someone with a fair amount of sailing experience (it was my late father-in-laws passion) I would enjoy a tad bit more realism in the sailing mechanics. The mod proved it was possible.

Oh, I didn't realize it was only RC1, although I don't know how feature locked that makes it.

Another thing I forgot to gripe about, and I don't see notes of it being fixed (although I have also not played lately so I am not positive it wasn't addressed) that drives me insane. Either furl the damn sail or let us climb to the top of the mast. It is pretty stupid that we just climb up for a better view to only be able to look behind us because the sail is in our face.

The sailboat really needs to be faster. I also agree about the need to not have to hold down w to sail, my poor finger.

I did a little test for the sailboat against the raft, and it seems the sailboat is no faster than the raft. In the test, I took the sailboat up to the trader first. It took 17~ minutes. I took the raft back and the time was almost the same 17~ minutes. And no, the commodities trader didn't have any tin for sale 😅

What are those generation settings?

Absolutely agreed, I would imagine that's what the halyard cleat is for? Tying it in a more open sail position would make the boat go more IRL (I believe, haven't done a whole lot of sailing). The entity interaction is already there, were they having trouble with getting the "button" to work?

Even still, this update is awesome, can't wait for the polish to come through.
