Friend has a server and we're getting this message when trying to get in it. Help.

If you click join game enough times it'll eventually let you in, however it can be annoying. Does anybody have any tips or advice on what the issue is and how it can be fixed?

Could be a firewalling issue on the server side. Check that the correct ports are forwarded and that they're going to the correct IP address on your friend's router for the server. Also try a direct IP connection if possible. DNS might be failing here. As a last resort, have your friend check the logs as the message says and post them here. There might be something in there that's useful.

Also is your friend running the server on Windows or Linux?

It looks to me as if the server tried to verify if the player has a legit copy of the game by connecting to Vintage Story's auth server. It's default behaviour. Maybe the route to that server from your server is firewalled or something. If you don't mind allowing people with pirated copies to connect to your server, you can set "verifyPlayerAuth" to false, it might help.

I had the same error last night logging onto my server, never seen it before yesterday.

I just kept retrying until it loaded Maybe it is a problem at the server end?
