пан тостадо Posted February 16, 2025 Report Posted February 16, 2025 Elk disappeared on boat today, interestingly I managed to get it back without commands. For context I logged out in my boat and elk tied up to a fence post slot, came back the next day and after a certain amount of movement it started flashing until disappearing entirely. After a re-log it was missing from the boat but was still in the position it was when I first logged in; in the middle of the ocean. What I think is happening is if the elk is on the boat during saving, it gets confused about where exactly it is and will try to restore it to its original position until it blinks out of existence. If you see your animals blinking or the saddlebag hitboxes drifting the best course of action currently might be to detach your animal, re-log, and then you can put your animal back and it should work fine? If anyone is willing to corroborate thanks in advance.

After relogin and continuing to travel on the boat, yup, the elk jumped from the boat to the nearest shore. My troubles went further then. I returned the boat to the shore next to the elk and tried to put the elk back to the boat. I got into issues with rope repeatedly breaking and appearing as an item in a hotbar, the fencing pole was not possible to remove, after removal, it appeared back after while. It got somewhat fixed in the next login, but then I went with the elk to explore and when returning to the vicinity of the boat (like 50 blocks, maybe), I got teleported to the boat together with the elk. So the connection of the boat and the elk is certainly bugged a lot. I suppose this is a documented bug, I have seen some discussions about it. But if the safe way is just unmount elk from the boat before logging off, this confirmation would do well for me now.

No matter how good it sounds to transport your elk with you, it's such a headache having it randomly teleport off ship to gods know where and then, when you retrieve that sneaky beast, have it just teleport you back onto ship when you get close enough as nothing happened. Some really odd chicanery going on...it may be related to rope physics which don't process as intended or something. Too often I zone out in the middle of the ocean and all of a sudden I realise my elk is no more
