Wayland Posted July 28, 2025 Report Posted July 28, 2025 I really like the way chimneys work in this game, but I've got to say I'm really disappointed with the 8 block height limitation. I've been building this awesome house on a mountaintop, but there's no way I can fit a chimney into the design unless I want to completely redo my roof (again) 1
Teh Pizza Lady Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 The 8 block limitation on chimneys is a bit disappointing. I definitely think that if you have a hole in your house that is 8 blocks long, however, it should count as a ventilation shaft and not contribute to counting whether you're indoors or not. 2
Dark Thoughts Posted July 30, 2025 Report Posted July 30, 2025 Agreed. I also don't like how we just got this one style to choose from. I like to build primitive Nordic A-frames with a big hearth in the middle and it's pretty much impossible to incorporate those typical roofed chimneys they'd have into the design with those chimney blocks in order to actually seal the room. Before I was using trap doors on the sides of the exhaust / roof side, but now that they're grated and don't count as a sealing block they won't work anymore. 20 minutes ago, traugdor said: I definitely think that if you have a hole in your house that is 8 blocks long, however, it should count as a ventilation shaft and not contribute to counting whether you're indoors or not. The "all or nothing" approach to room sealing is definitely annoying, not just for chimneys, but I guess it saves processing power, since you don't have to do complex calculations. I'm a sucker for chimneys especially though, I even wish they'd have something like in Valheim where you actually need one for the smoke. As it stands, it is probably more useful to just use an "always on" chimney if you want that aesthetic. 2

Really though, just adding a chimney block would go a long ways and help. It could even go sideways for short distances. Any chimney structure that has a fire beneath it will become filled with smoke and will emit smoke particles from the top of the structure. Chimney structures count as sealing blocks. 2
Wayland Posted August 1, 2025 Author Report Posted August 1, 2025 A chimney block would be awesome! As much as I like the chiseling system, I really thing a specialized block would be best for this particular issue, especially since it directly involves itself with survival mechanics. I know there are perma-smoking chimney mods, but I just don't want to use those, because it will absolutely bother me for a chimney to be smoking when I know there isn't a fire on
Teh Pizza Lady Posted August 2, 2025 Report Posted August 2, 2025 There is also a chimney mod but it follows the vanilla behavior for smoke particles instead of just counting the top opening of a chimney block as a smoke emitter.
Wayland Posted August 2, 2025 Author Report Posted August 2, 2025 One again had to struggle with my chimney This time I had to admit defeat and block it partway up, which is probably gonna bother me forever but at least I can keep it visually there... doesn't work properly anyway. I really hope some kind of fix can be found, though. I find the 8 block limit to be crazy restrictive, especially considering all the amazing building options I have at my disposal. Not being able to have a chimney just because I wanted to build a house with a second floor and/or a slanted roof is kind ridiculous.
Parenn Posted August 3, 2025 Report Posted August 3, 2025 Does it count a chimney as a smoke source? Could you hide one half way up inside the chimney as a kind of relay?
