mycroftcanadans Posted August 10, 2025 Report Posted August 10, 2025 Hello. I was thinking I should find out if you folks would consider on adding a feature where if you're playing on a coop server with your friends that when you die only you can pickup your dropped loot. This game is very difficult which is the way I like it and it does make one more of a hoarder, more protective of their hard earned loot (tools you've made etc) and losing it even to a friend can be a setback of sorts. Tools and weapons are not easy to make. Anyway, I just thought I would ask about this. Cheers.
Krougal Posted August 10, 2025 Report Posted August 10, 2025 If you can't count on your friends to return your stuff, then find better friends This is the mod you want. There is also of course the built-in option to keep items on death. 2
hstone32 Posted August 10, 2025 Report Posted August 10, 2025 You know... I kinda just decided that loosing items on death doesn't really add anything to my enjoyment of the game. I no longer feel any shame playing wit keep inventory on death active. 1
Parenn Posted August 10, 2025 Report Posted August 10, 2025 I mostly agree - I put the time to despawn dropped items up to 10 real-life hours, and then didn’t go that far from home until I had a terminus transposer thingy.

I feel the same, although later on it should probably be a habit to use those temporal gears cluttering your inventory and start setting a new spawn point nearby when you go off to do something stupid risky. Never really thought about it, but that is probably why the elk even has 3 spots just for TGs. 2 minutes ago, Parenn said: I mostly agree - I put the time to despawn dropped items up to 10 real-life hours, and then didn’t go that far from home until I had a terminus transposer thingy. Yeah, that is also a good thing to do if you aren't using one of the other options. So we've all got a few options available that should suit just about everyone. One could also just play permadeath and not deal with it at all Edited August 10, 2025 by Krougal 1

Oh, of course. While I may not agree with dropping items, I do believe there should be a punishment for death. It's part of the reason I moved to the distant far north from my spawn point.

It's more along the lines of having to stop and keep sorting out whos loot is whos especially when you're in an area where you and your friends are fighting and dying and when you return to get your gear you accidentally pick up their gear as well which leaves them high and dry when they return. Makes it really annoying to be honest.

Player corpse mod will do the trick.
mycroftcanadans Posted August 11, 2025 Author Report Posted August 11, 2025 It would. My friend is now working on a mod that I hope will add it into the game.

Did you miss the link in my first reply? It's a thing. Not that alternate mods are a bad thing. Never know when one person is going to lose interest and not update.

Do you know if it works for the current version?
Krougal Posted August 11, 2025 Report Posted August 11, 2025 In the 1.21RC versions? I cannot tell you for sure. I believe it does, but I am playing with keep items on right now so I disabled the mod. If you are talking about it not saying 1.20.12, it still works with it. A lot of mods I have hadn't been updated since like 1.17 but they still worked up through 1.20. 1.21 introduced a lot of changes in the data structure, I think they reorganized everything for sanity's sake. I want to say I had it enabled when I was playing RC1, but I didn't die so I don't know if it works. Some mods will load without error but not work, some will not error until the are triggered (so like it could seem to work fine until you die). A lot of the mod authors don't update until the stable version comes out.
