I created the same seed over and over about 10 times and I noticed stuff behaving differently (compared to previous patches).

Every time I'm visiting the same trader (which was luxuries trader I had no use of and that was a reason I started re-creating the save with the same seed). Every time berry bushes, grains, vegetables and the others are placed in the same location and at the same growth stage. Previously I could restart the game until I've got the desired trader, but there's no more of that. Is it intended or a bug?

Everything generated in a world depends on the seed. If you use the same seed, you get the same world, same crops, same traders, same climates, same everything. You can restart the game, but you'll only get different results if you use a different seed.

If you're saying it didn't work like that before, that's v surprising to me since the whole concept of a random seed is for predictable randomness. If you saw things changing within a seed before, it sounds likely that it was a bug. And if it's no longer working that way, one that was fixed?

Since I remember playing the game, it was like that in my worlds. The trader spawned every time at the very same spot in the very same wagon. But each time everything else was random: the type of the trader and its items, the layout of the trees around, existence or absence of some vegetables growing nearby. It was a nice way to get what you want if you had a seed with the desired neighbourhood at the spawn.

I didn't think the wild crop locations were part of the seed. Some stuff is added to the surface randomly. I could be wrong.

I reused the same seed a bunch of times in 1.19 when I was figuring out how to play the game, and the landscape and flowers were always the same. (It was a plain with few trees in the immediate area.)

It does seem like traders and ruins are no longer associated with the world seed in a direct fashion. I'm trying to create a copy of a streamer's world (she got an amazing spawn with a castle ruin not far away), but the ruin is never there when I try and create a copy. The terrain is identical - rock layers, water, etc. Just the ruins are different, and different every try too.

Did she have BetterRuins/Do you have BetterRuins? I don't recall any full on castle ruins in vanilla VintageStory, but I have seen them in the BetterRuins mod.

I do not and I don't believe she did either. It wasn't a full castle, just some ruins, and a small room. You can see it on her stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/geminitay/v/2552002364?sr=a&t=8692s

I've found the exact same spot but there's no ruin there. Some smaller ones nearby, but they vary each time I recreate the world.

Edit: she shares the seed and you can see her worldgen setup (it's also pasted on her discord), if you want to try yourself.

The only major variable is that I'm on Linux and she's on Windows. Could that be affecting the random number generator perhaps? If so, why is the terrain identical?

Nah, in that case I'm more inclined to say that I'm full of it.
