Check the version of the mod you have downloaded in the VS mod manager, check the mod page for a newer version, download the new version if there is one, enable new version and disable/delete old version if necessary (the game enables/disabled automatically, but sometimes there are issues), do the same for any dependencies that mod has, if any.

Or you can click the "Follow" on each mod's page to get notifications.
That way you don't need to keep checking every mod page for new versions, you just go to you notifications and see nice list of what's new.
(obviously, you still need to do the updating as described)
