cAshewTheAce Posted November 29, 2025 Report Posted November 29, 2025 I have been trying to stream the game on discord, but it's not working the best. Firstly, the game doesn't show up at all in fullscreen, and if you spam alt tab and get it to show up that way, it will stream a black or frozen screen. Then if you add it as a recognized game to discord, it gives you an ability to stream the game. However, the game becomes supper choppy, to the point of being sickening to play. It could be a hardware issue but i stream tarkov and that piece of shit can stream fine in fullscreen. I can finally stream it in windowed mode, but i hate playing any game in windowed, your performance sucks, you lose real estate (to the windows bar) and if you try to autohide it, it will bug out since windows is trash. So why is the game impossible to stream on discord? It shouldn't be this hard, graphically it looks like it could be a browser game with how simple it looks, yet im having so much trouble making it work so my friends can watch me play.
user 88 91 Posted November 29, 2025 Report Posted November 29, 2025 This usually requires changes either to Vintage Story or Discord. Discord setting streaming settings: There is a settings in discord, user settings -> Voice & Video -> Streaming -> "Use our advanced technology to capture your screen" - try toggle this Workarounds: Use OBS as a middle man for discord streaming -> Setup OBS to capture vintage story -> right-click the preview and then choose "project preview" -> stream OBS preview to discord 1

The second one works well, if it weren't for the fact it doesn't capture any audio. 1
user 88 91 Posted December 3, 2025 Report Posted December 3, 2025 (edited) Try change the discord streaming setting: If the streaming setting was already turned on in discord, you could try to disable it and see if that solves the issue, the feature is experimental and might not work with all applications, this could be why it wasn't working. OBS + Voicemeeter workaround: I've streamed audio though discord using software such as Voicemeeter previously, you could try to combine this with OBS streaming to stream both audio and video. The goal with software such as voicemeeter is to combine both specific sounds sources (such as vintage story) with your microphone into one audio channel that you can use as audio input to discord. Here's how I setup this, you enable/disable A/B channels to forward it to the desired output: You can find App volume and device preferences by putting this in run (WIN+R) -> explorer.exe ms-settings:apps-volume Edited December 3, 2025 by user 88 91 Formating and some clean-up 1
Teax Posted December 4, 2025 Report Posted December 4, 2025 We experiented with this a bit and as you discovered, window mode is the key. You can try adding Vintage Story as game to discord and it should detect VS. Playing in true borderless window mode with the help of "BorderlessGaming" and got no problems streaming VS. Best regards 2
user 88 91 Posted December 4, 2025 Report Posted December 4, 2025 @TeaxThat's a great suggestion, I actually am using Borderless Gaming - I set it up 2019 for vintage story so had completely forgot about that! I suggest using the legacy version: https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases The newer versions aren't free and also seems to be having some issues according to reviews: https://store.steampowered.com/app/388080/Borderless_Gaming/#app_reviews_hash
CastIronFabric Posted December 6, 2025 Report Posted December 6, 2025 at least for me, I can only stream if I am in windowed mode. I think though that might because I have two monitors. I am not sure.
SobalVoodle Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 I just posted my solution on r/vintagestory, so I'll just copy/paste it here: I came up with a solution I call "Evil Screen Sharing". It's a bit unorthodox, but if you get OBS on steam or whatever you want, you can set it up with the virtual camera tool. By using this, you make the game capture act as a webcam instead. This actually "streams" at a higher quality than most other normal games, just by using OBS this way. If you want to stream sound too, I found that you can screenshare your second monitor at the lowest settings, and just enable the audio capture. This actually ended up working so well that I will probably be using "Evil Screenshare" with other stubborn games that refuse to capture correctly on discord. Hope this helps!
