Ok so this is an issue my partner and I have run into recently while trying to update to the latest update for Vintage Story, we're both on linux mint and when we try to use all the different methods of updating including as using install.sh or the flatpak. I've even gone so far as to try and manually remove every last trace of the game from my computer, when I restart, the application is still there and still opens up to the 1.21.5 version, any advice on how to proceed? am I stuck on 1.21.5 forever or is there a way for me to still be able to update my partner and I's games?

I ran into a very similar problem. using the install.sh does make a 1.21.6 version, but the 1.21.5 version was still there, also the new version didn't have access to my save files but the old one did.  In addition to what you did, I also used flatpack to uninstall VS with

flatpak uninstall --delete-data vintagestory

and confirming Y to everything. I reinstalled Vintage Story via install.sh and used the default file location. I was even able so move my save files away before deleting, then moved them back into the saves folder and they still work. I only recently started using Linux Mint so maybe there is a better way.

For any others that may run into this issue, I realized I installed on flatpak without sudo, so when I would run sudo flatpak update, it didn't have access to my home directory.

A simple flatpak update command updated the game with no issue, where I couldn't update the game prior.
