Can anything be done about the blocky edges of gabled roofs?

Is there anything can be done with wood or thatch roofs?

I know chiseling slate or ceramic roofs can make gables look better (especially with the support beams), but I'm wondering about the early game thatch/wood roofs

Aside from chiseling hay or wood blocks there isn't much you can do in vanilla.

Make it a hip roof https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_roof or build the top part of the wall in the same material as the roof.
