Is there a way to waterlog a chiseled block that doesn't involve putting a hole in the bottom of it?

I've heard a lot of things when it comes to trying to waterlog a chiseled block, but the best I've got is chiseling out a block so it only has 1 pixel thick walls and an open top, I try waterlogging it and it doesn't work, but as soon as I put a big enough hole in the bottom it lets me. What's up with that? I want a basin, not a vertical pipe.

You should be able to do it by removing a single voxel from one side of the basin and then putting the water in that tiny hole (it will fill up the basin). You don't need to chisel out the internal bottom or internal sides of your basin at all. I was able to make a sink of sorts by using this method. The entire internal bottom and internal sides of the sink are watertight and have no missing voxels, but the side of the sink that is against the wall has a single voxel chiseled out of it. I can't remember if it matters where the single chiseled voxel is—there's a possibility that it needs to be on the row closest to the ground.

I don't think there's another method for making this kind of thing without a mod, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm not sure how exactly this works, so i simply put wood planks around the water and carved them into a barrel. Also, the bottom is a wooden plank block instead of your normal floor.
The downside is that despite its small size it takes up 3x3 blocks so you can't build directly next to it.

These look really nice! Very cool chisel work. From what I can tell, you can waterlog any chiseled block that has less than a slab's worth of voxels. You might also have to click on a block adjacent to it to fill the space with water, I'm not sure.
