  1. Thank God we have people in this community who actually know that they're talking about. I'm tired of people who have probably never taken Intro to C having an opinion and thinking that it should matter when it comes to anything regarding tech aside from how much it costs to purchase devices/software. There is a mod on the database right now that is basically a more robust form of anticheat than maltiez's implementation. The only difference is transparency and public advertisement of the intent behind the mod, but I haven't taken the time to check if I can review his code just by opening the zip files and reading the text. If that is the case, then I have some terrible news for the people excited about it. If that is not the case, then I have even more terrible news about the people who still believe that maltiez's actions/conduct are to be condemned. Either way, the game is growing and even though that is a wonderful thing for the devs in a financial sense, it is most definitely going to turn into Minecraft 2.0 because that will give trolls more incentive to actually purchase cheat clients and ruin the gameplay experience for the rest of us that play multiplayer on a public server. I grew up watching Team Avolition make reddit neckbeards cry over block game, but once the cheating starts en masse you can't put a lid on that can of worms as easily as the average person might believe. It was still hilarious, though. It could also potentially be incredibly hilarious to see happen in this game because you actually earn every block you place and ingot you bring into existence LMAO. That is why I will never play with anyone who I have never met face-to-face. I trust this community as far as I can throw Dave Blunts over my shoulder and into the morgue when he passes from the complications of his morbid obesity.
  2. Apparently not. The armchair cybersecurity experts seem to believe they understand more about their PC and the internet than the rest of us regardless of our credentials and tech literacy, but are simultaneously unaware of how math (rather, statistics) works so the only thing they can do is make emotional, ethical, and semantical arguments to try and prove themselves correct when the little data we do have access to should be more than enough.
  3. So did it disrupt service of anything other than your installation of the game that it determined was using cheats enough to actually warrant using that term to describe it? Targets of DDoS attacks are usually servers rather than clients because it is more efficient if you are trying to, I don't know... deny access to a widely-used and popular service??? Are you serious?
  4. Ahh yes. I spend $45k of the government's money for a piece of paper that tells me and others that we know more about a certain field of science than others who didn't decide to do that very same thing. Therefore, "I'm so much smarter and holier than thou" for simply trying to stop others from spouting lies based on their lack of understanding of the field of science I paid money I didn't even have for the privilege to learn... A field of science that is one of the most difficult branches of math once you get past the code monkey phase and into the real nitty gritty of what it is we are actually supposed to be doing... I can doxx myself to prove my credentials because I like to do so and have done so at least 6 times in the last year, but I'd like to know if you have some credentials to back up anything you say other than pure unadulterated vibes?
  5. That's actually the next mod on my list to try out when I hit winter in my current save. I'm only a little hesitant because I think it would probably be much stronger early game than even Primitive Survival's furrowed farmland lol.
  6. So... tell me what user data has been stolen and how it actually accessed anything on those systems aside from their installation of Vintage Story? You must realize that malware is written to do either of these two things, so you can't ignore it if we're going to argue semantics. That would be highly intellectually dishonest, but I would accept it if the entire world population has different definitions for what that word means. However, that would also mean that the textbook definition is the only one that is correct because colloquial understandings of cybersecurity terms will not win you a court case, my friend. Also, calling this a trojan is laughable. You were not tricked into downloading mods that already came with a warning label written by Anego Studios themselves. Take some accountability, gang. You must understand that malware is a problem because it targets all users regardless of circumstance. All anticheats that actually work are technically malware and Riot Games' Vanguard is a perfect example of this because it accesses the kernel of your OS to determine whether or not you're using wallhacks or aimbot. I'm not going to even explain to you why this is horrifying, but they also don't have a choice because these cheats do the same to avoid detection to begin with. It isn't touching the game files at all to allow them to cheat because these people are making money selling them and they are NOT idiots. That is why Vanguard works so well to begin with. Ignoring because someone has already informed you why you're wrong. Play the game by yourself and without mods like the devs intended or cope harder. He's getting a salary and that's not going to stop while other mod authors wish they were good enough to work for Tyron. The projection is unreal LMAO. I hope you're not a mod author because I will never download your stuff if this is how you actually think. Edit: I didn't want to actually respond to this person because I'm already tired of this overblown drama, but I have a duty as an adult member of this community to fight against the spread of misinformation. This whole incident is literally proof that our species is losing its ability to understand written language lol.
  7. I love the game and it has come pretty far since I bought it several years ago and only started playing again recently. Ignoring all the bupkis surrounding a seemingly large number of armchair cybersecurity experts, the progression as far as tools are concerned is basically perfection. No complaints. However, I have some issues with how agriculture is handled in the game because while it does incentivize you to find other sources of sustenance (malefactor, blackguard, and hunter all address this in their own unique ways), it doesn't really make sense that I cannot build my own farm until I have a metal tool (copper saw). I understand that having the ability to place water is very powerful in a block game just like it is in Minecraft, but... I also do not understand why I can not make some form of ceramic equivalent because I religiously watch Primitive Technology on YouTube and this is exactly what he does. I'm not a big stickler for realism, but I do like it in survival games because it makes the experience more immersive, but you don't need metal tools to make something that can carry water in real life. I know that it is probably like that for either balance reasons or a holdover from Vintage Story's early days as a Minecraft mod, though. Not gonna complain too hard about it because it is just about the only issue I have with the game, which is actually very good since it allows me to give the team some highly specific suggestions to smooth out the progression curve in all aspects of it. With that being said, there are mods that do address these issues. Fishingplus makes baiting your hook far less tedious. CrucibleInForge gives me one more option when it comes to smelting alloys with a sufficient enough drawback to consider it balanced. Primitive Survival solves the issue with early game irrigation completely, but fishing does need some work because it seems to be very strong in that particular mod, but is about on par with hunting because 3 deep pits and spears trivialize it entirely as it would in any block game. That leads me to the other thing I actually like about this game; the ease of which you can actually install mods and share them with others since they are installed upon joining a server. My best friend used to always be the one to curate our modpacks on CurseForge, but this game makes it entirely unnecessary. Tyron and the team are doing a great job and I'll not be easily convinced otherwise.
  8. It is kinda crazy that lots of people who seem to not understand very much about cybersecurity have twisted the actual definition of the word malware into whatever convenient bogeyman they believe is worthy of this level of vitriol. Imagine if schlep was hated by the Roblox community for tricking pdf's into exposing themselves with help from the actual police lmao.
