The curse mechanic in One Hour One Life doesn't do anything more than mark a player as someone that doesn't deserve to be trusted. The same could be accomplished by having the number of times a given username is reported as some kind of negative reputation counter. It is essentially the same thing as reddit's karma system but can only move in a single direction (negative). It would be entirely up to the server admins to trust the individual enough to let them play on the server. The community just chooses who deserves to not be trusted. I played with several cursed individuals in One Hour One Life who were falsely accused, but they were also greatly contributing to the success of our tribe and helping other players learn the game. However, quite often they would be actual trolls and oust themselves very quickly, so it would probably work the same in this game.

So VS RLCraft?

Birch, Oak, Maple, and Pine because those are usually the only trees I find in a Standard world unless I get really lucky. I haven't experimented with different climates yet, though. It is possible there are better wood types, but making due with what I have immediate access to feels more authentic and immersive imho. There's also too many different choices and I don't particularly like creative mode, so I suppose my answer will change after another 1k hours or so.

The curse mechanic from One Hour One Life would a great way to permanently brand cheaters, trolls, hackers, and other such types of degenerates. The way that it works is that at least 2 (or 3, I don't remember) players must curse the bad actor with a chat command and that curse will mark them with a black username, so that immediately after and when they join another multiplayer session, the rest of the community can easily determine whether or not they deserve to be kicked, banned, or otherwise. It is basically a blacklist with a democratic twist. Also only slightly effective since you'd basically need only a VPN to bypass it in that game (I think), but in VS you'd have to buy an entirely new account to remove the stain on your reputation. Dedicated trolls might be willing to spend $1000 just to keep having their little fun at others' expense, but it would definitely incentivize normal people to act on their best behavior.

theory on Open Source Anti-cheat as a mod (Not the current drama)
Juwan Alexander replied to Zvengks's topic in Discussion
All of this would make sense if maltiez snuck his anticheat into the actual game as an official dev and not optional content that you do not need to run it on your machine as a mod author. Everything he did was something that the game's API would allow any other mod author to do, so it isn't like he found a vulnerability that would allow some bad actor to do serious damage. His targets were cheaters and a modder who put a cheat client on the official ModDB. As far as I am aware, Anego were not really doing much to stop it and maltiez's mods were popular enough that he would be able to catch them. He did. The incident only blew up when he forgot to remove the code and the Caves N Caverns author discovered it. It blew up even further when he justified his actions. I agree with his justification for doing this wholeheartedly, but his conduct was not the professional corpo speak we're used to seeing from the gaming industry. However, Anego is a small indie studio, so I also don't believe they should be held to those same strict standards. Either way, I don't really care about the community's trust in the devs because I don't put any game dev or studio on some kind of pedestal. Enough time has passed that we now have access to all of the relevant facts and data. The facts and data prove that this was a very minor issue (<1% false positive rate) for a relatively minor problem (less than 100 cheaters targeted successfully). I don't play multiplayer nor do I own a server with mods installed and those are the only ones who may have had an issue, but we also have the download numbers for the three legit mods (playerlists, Caves N Caverns, and URL Radio) that were flagged, so... Idk. If a maximum of (potentially) 5-6k individuals running into this issue when the community is 150k+ strong is enough of a problem to you to justify the outrage, then I have nothing more to say. -
Then sue. Tell us when you lose the case. The trusted party was a modder who was later hired and informed Anego of his prior actions. Your trust in 3rd party developers over the actual person/people responsible for this game is astounding. I guess you can report your drug dealer to the authorities for selling you bad bud with zero legal repercussions lol.

Currently trying to speedrun steel age so I can spend the rest of my free time doing other stuff. Minmaxing in this game is optional since you can just change the settings to give yourself more time to prepare for winter, but those first 30 or so IRL hours have to be spent wisely or else you'll suffer like I did when I first downloaded TerraFirmaCraft. It's just about the only way I can have fun in this game because I like to stockpile materials to give my builds more variety. Can't do it efficiently without the best tools in the game, just like in Minecraft lol.

Now is the right time to start building sheds

My first shelter is always a temporary cellar/workstation/whatever I need at the moment. Eight tool racks usually does the trick. Two outside the front door for convenience. Curious to see the outside, though. -
Don't know what I would add, but I would definitely encourage the devs to watch Primitive Technology on YouTube if they're not already doing it. Stone age needs a little bit more work to smooth out the progression, but that's it imo. I have heard that they are trying to basically get rid of the Crafting Grid entirely, but that could just be hearsay from whatever content creator who said this first. It would be interesting to say the least.

It's a public forum and I assumed it was reacting to the debacle going on between me and genderBiohazrd because literally no one but the two of us are still going back and forth about something that never even mattered to begin with. I don't even think my post is even bad enough to warrant moderator intervention lol. Could be wrong, though.

Hmm... No I don't think so. You tried to imply that I have some kind of superiority complex, but you seem to not be realizing that this is textbook projection. So you care more about the emotions you are projecting onto the text on your monitor than the validity of what I actually said? More projection. Cool. Your response implied the opposite because only someone who disagreed with the premise of my post would do exactly what you did. Hmm... Let me look at what you said one more time. No. I don't believe you have ever had the right to do so. Are you incapable of shutting off the part of your brain that makes you read words on a screen in a way that you believe must indicate that someone is being mean? https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=38 Notice that the drop starts at 2012, which is one year before I graduated. I also was an Honors English student in South Carolina, which ranked in the bottom 5 for education. Are you going to continue to ignore the truth because it hurts your fee fees too much? I never implied that anyone who disagreed with me was illiterate or a child, btw. I just said this entire incident is more proof that this graph is not lying to us. (edit: the subreddit is definitely full of children, though) This is my bad side, gangrene. I'm just not pissed enough to start speaking to you like the black man that I actually am. On YouTube? You'd be getting flamed. On Reddit? Cooked alive, fam.

What is your favorite material to make lanterns out of?
Juwan Alexander replied to SnapJelly's topic in Discussion
I must be doing something wrong because I've yet to find the ore I need to make black bronze in the 300 hours I've spent on this game in the last month lol. -
I was being rude? Do you realize that America and the world as a whole is slowly becoming illiterate due to the disastrous effects of what happens when you raise a child from the age of 3 with a smart device? You literally ignored everything I said before that in response to the other person who tried to tell me what constitutes as malware when I have refreshed my understanding of it by reading several similar definitions from various sources that I already knew were correct. I have read every single relevant post about this incident, watched every single video on YouTube, and briefly decided to dive into the cesspit that is the VS subreddit that I know must be full of children based on the way they like to ignore objective reality even when someone does take the time out of their day to correct their misunderstandings in a civil manner. You know what happens when people do that? Massive amounts of downvotes, ad hominems, whataboutism, false equivalences, and blatant misinformation. I had enough of that in the antiai subreddit because while I do hate AI I am not going to hate it for reasons that don't make sense because my educational background makes that impossible. However, if I don't express any opinion that is 100% in alignment with the hivemind then my words are not taken seriously. To drive the point home even further, you yourself didn't even bother to refute any of the points that I made. No. You decided to project harder than the overheads my elementary school teacher used to teach me math up until middle school. The only thing I said that might have been slightly rude, was that you would need to cope harder because that is the objective truth. Maltiez has already been punished accordingly. I agree with the punishment. He definitely deserved it. However, he definitely still deserves to keep his job because Anego's trust was not broken by his actions since he literally came clean before getting hired as an employee of that company. Will you apologize for your rudeness to me as someone who was simply trying to tell another why they are wrong about something I went to school to learn in the nicest manner possible considering I didn't even insult anyone and my humorous comment on the declining literacy rate was based on factual data that can be verified in two seconds with a google search?

Pretty sure common consensus is copper because it is impossible to run out of the stuff. For aesthetics? That would honestly depend on if I can get my hands on enough pretty metal to use for that purpose. Primitive survival does add wooden lanterns, though. I think they look better than the metal ones and make a tad bit more sense. -
theory on Open Source Anti-cheat as a mod (Not the current drama)
Juwan Alexander replied to Zvengks's topic in Discussion
I was mostly joking, but you'd be surprised at how many people dropped and switched majors when pointers were introduced. The next course's (CPSC 1020) project was to literally build a ray tracer from scratch and so many people whined about it that they actually changed the curriculum just to avoid losing more students right before I took it (I was actually looking forward to it). OOP was literally a breeze with Java/C++. The program only became difficult once they started to throw some massive curveballs in the form of Discrete Mathematics (300 level, not intro) and professors who had literally written languages that didn't exist so we couldn't cheat by looking up tutorials or finding it on stack exchange. Intelligent foreigners who never really learned English well enough to explain these concepts were a common complaint as well. Basically, we were on our own. Code monkey business was any 100 to 200 level course that you were actually wasting money learning in a university because YouTube exists. 300 and above is when the difficulty actually spiked. Lots of my peers never made it that far. However, the backlash for maltiez's actions has more to do with a startling lack of tech literacy that shouldn't be possible in the big 26 when I've been learning how to keep my system safe the hard way as a 90's kid before we even coined the term 'cybersecurity.' If Mutahar has not covered this drama, then it is not worthy of anything more than mild concern for people who use the 1-click install function one too many times without reading the warning label. With that being said, OP might not be a programmer, but you don't need to be a skilled code monkey to have a good understanding of the many subfields that comprise Computer Science as a whole. Installing linux and an adblocker is all you need to do to protect yourself from just about everything, but the ones complaining most about this nothingburger of the century probably don't even understand what BIOS means nor what it is even used for. -
Your last paragraph made me lose all faith that you were being serious, but I will say this one thing; if you are playing a single game that uses Vanguard or using a Windows PC instead of Linux, then I have terrible news. The first is a kernel level anticheat that Riot never discloses is actually doing this when you install their games. Very bad if you care about cybersecurity. Windows is literally one of the least secure OS on the market lol. Their customer bases eclipse Vintage Story by orders of magnitude, though. Big Tech also regularly employs hackers to improve cybersecurity because tossing money at a troll who is obsessed with breaking your product is better than relying on individuals with good morals who will never attempt half of the things they do to commit those sorts of crimes. Anego knew about his anticheat well before we did and I trust their judgement more than I trust some randos on the internet whose playbook consists of moral grandstanding and virtue signaling that is really nothing more than crying like an infant to make their fees fees stop hurting LMAO. Ethics? Don't need it. Data? Much better. Statistics? Even better.

I only have a Bachelor's, was planning on pivoting to architecture in grad school, and, as of this moment, I am not working on any projects. All of the ones I did post on github were tied to my university gmail account that I no longer have access to since I graduated in 2020. I do have plans to begin creating a couple of QoL mods for this game, though. Primarily for my own personal use since I want to uninstall the mods I am using for this purpose one day. Unlike uni I now have infinite free time to read the API at my leisure and modding is just about the only thing I was actually passionate about while going to school aside from UX Design/FE. The field of Computer Science is incredibly broad, but the first thing you learn is that coding isn't rocket science as long as you actually read the documentation front to back before you ever start typing.

Looking for a group or server to join.
Juwan Alexander replied to SoundBranch's topic in Multiplayer
Good luck finding one. Singleplayer enjoyer, here. So, I don't know if I can help you on that front, but if you want to play alongside me I can simply advertise my server publicly for you. IGN: duTrip My server name will probably include my ign, but I do have a job and my schedule is not necessarily consistent, so it's probably going to be rare to ever see me on for a considerable amount of time. I will consider paying for a dedicated server if you don't want the financial burden associated with that and get on whenever I am able to avoid this, though. However, I'm still on the fence about multiplayer in this game because I do not trust easily.
