  1. With gradual I meant the rivers and oceans, the mountains are fine, I think. For me personally, I don't like the Idea of having the nations marked, because this is just not the way it is in reality. And with the rivers it just feels odd to fall into a small river and suddenly be at the bottom of the marianas trench haha
  2. Since the scale of this map is roughly 1 block = 1 kilometer, most rivers shouldnt be deeper than 1, maybe for gameplay purposes 2 blocks, and the sea should maybe be more like 10-20 blocks maximum. But most important is I think that the changes are more gradual
  3. If your Japan map is only half as good as this one, I have a feeling my family won't see me this christmas haha
  4. The only thing that I could critizise atm would be the deep river/seas and "nation border walls". Since I don't want to build in Siberia, I always have some in sight and they break the immersion, and some minor things like that the topography is veery losely based on reality (Germany is in this map completely flat after the alps and the black forest, which doesn't correspond to reality), but I can live with that, given the scale.
  5. Awesome mate! You do realize that you did (as far as I know) the first downloadable VS map? And then it is such a banger! Thats an archivement to be proud of!
  6. I have an Idea for a mod: wet rice cultivation. In the real world, rice is first grown on normal soil and then replanted into water. Maybe there could be a mod that adds a rice variant that when harvested normally (or that uses the vanilla rice's harvest) yields rice saplings, that then have to be replanted in 1 block deep water, and then give a high yield of rice and rice straw. Another thing that could be added is silk production, where you cultivate silk moths, which lay eggs, that you then have to boil to get silk thread. Both these mechanics should be fairly simple to implement with the current game mechanics.

Regarding the vegetation I think it needs a lot more expecially on the mountains. The mountains are very dense forest, expecially in tohoku and the central alps. Also the winter/snow line should be more like in the middle of Japan. Last year we had a lot of snow in the Mountains near Kyoto (naturally not so much down in the Kyoto plain), and the northern part of Chugoku (Matsue) and Hokuriku get a lot of snow as well. Sorry if I seem overly critical, your map is the most amazing thing i've seen regarding VS in a long time!

    Japan Map

oh my god I love it. Is there any way you could share the save or something? I lived in Japan for a long time, now I'm back in my homecountry for a couple months, I really would love to try to build Heijo and Heian. There are some areas that would need a little polishing, like the Towadako is really really steep, I still remember how frightening it was to drive up from the lake, and the view from the top, and I don't see any bamboo, but other than that it is magnificent!

Please let me know when you have finished the world. I've been trying for hours to get a decent japanese-esque landscape with alpine story mod plus the ingame terraforming, to build heijo-kyo

There is a Mod/script that turns minecraft worldpainter maps into VS maps, you can apparently even do some amount of temperature/humidity setting there
  11. Hi all, I know there are no Biomes in the Minecraft sense, but there are these kind of Pseudodesertbiomes, where there is no grass, only trees and shrubs on sand or gravel, and I totally hate them. Such large scale deserts are extremely rare, and outside of real deserts basically unknown, so it really destroys any immersion when I spawn in a nice, green valley, maybe a small lake here and there, and then there are these huge hills, covering hundreds, maybe thousands of blocks, of only sand or gravel, and it is not even that warm of a climate. Is there ANY way to get rid of those Biomes? I sometimes spend more time creating worlds and deleting them right after because such deserts turn me off, than actually playing the game...
