Is the falling dirt that disappears a known bug in 1.20.4?

I have this issue also as of 1.20.4 this bug is still present. -
I find that standing way back helps. Start carving downwards in the area in front of you where you want to carve the rock. Then you can go to higher levels. When cave in occurs the rocks fall in the hollow you carved instead of falling on you. You can clear out the hollow and continue if you want to dig up. I'm not sure how to effectively use the "support beams" yet.
