Not to sound like a pyro but adding the ability to light things on fire with a torch or firestarter would add to the open aspect of the game.

More mechanical parts that could also move with flexibility on how they connect would open up a world of in game engineering comparable to minecraft e.g pistons and rotating bars or ropes.
