They aren't morons, and this will be the one time you will see me use ad hom: YOU have a STUNTED emotional intelligence. Labeling people you don't agree with as stupid, and attempting to psychoanalyze them is the most cringey behavior I've seen this month, and I'm online a lot. I don't feel dogpiled. I have been online long enough and a few comments of people groaning because they love a game isn't "dogpiling." You also engage in the emotionally unintelligent behavior of extreme exaggeration. These people are biased, not fanatical. I am on the internet and TBH I am in real life and I think I can handle people have emotional opinions based off of their endearment to a hobby or game. It's called talking to human beings who have emotions and their own personal opinions. If you've been living for more than one day, you'd know that's a common, normal occurrence. Non-psychological professionals using hot button psych terms they don't understand GRINDS MY GEARS like no one cares about your mental conspiracy theory.

Do you know how to talk to people? Did you read the top of my post? People who even AGREE with you aren't going to want to side with your walls of text calling people stupid, moronic, idiotic- we get it, you have access to a thesaurus and you're gonna use it. I do not condone this Xbox live checkmate atheists behavior in my forum. You are not providing anything to support my concerns or even your concerns you're just making people who are wondering if picking up Hytale is a good idea look bad. Like for christs sake I thought I was a bit too inflammatory but wtf is this? I did not want to come back to 3 more pages of people bickering on my post

Honestly this forum is 6(?) pages long so I'm not sure if my statement includes you or not but if you're not doing any of the stuff I was talking about then I'm not talking about you specifically. I have made multiple statements against ad hominem on this post and edited the post itself to condemn it before you even read the original post. Insulting people? Again people need to stop dragging me into their off shoot arguments that are off topic with other people. I am not doing that shit. Do not confuse me with the people in here still having completely unrelated and obnoxious takes on things completely separate from my original complaint. I called out BOTH people who were rude in here, and cover anyone else who comes in being rude. It's literally at the top of the original post Both opinions are reasonable and you are correct about that for sure. Just so people remember what ad hominem is: "I think your opinion is bad" not ad hom "I think YOU are bad" is ad hom.

This is basically the core of my issue. This was originally a failed game, not a mode, not a mod. It's own game. The team says the goal for picking this up is to make it it's own game. It's own game completely different than Vintage Story, in gameplay, genre, look, feel, everything. Then they say it's going to be a adventure mode in Vintage Story. That is so confusing. That's why I said, if the goal is to make it it's own game, and that's what it originally was, then do that. And that's my opinion. And I'm allowed to have that opinion. And I can see why this person is done because there are quite a few people here who act like you're not allowed to have that opinion.

Again just to reiterate my original concern was just that this wasn't the best idea. Because Hytale was a failed project & it didn't make sense to me to put that game inside Vintage Story if the goal is to make it it's own game. AND NOW Hytale Founder likely will not be able to buy back the rights to Hytale and all is assets. I'm not here to argue with people over the semantics and moralities of an early access game. I'm happy to support this game in early access. I'm not here to complain about the price of the game versus what we have so far. This game is already worth MORE than Minecraft, but it's cheaper. I DO NOT CARE IF ANGEO MAKES MORE GAMES. In fact I would LOVE that and they are ALREADY doing that. I don't want to argue or debate with you over completely unrelated topics that could be their whole other forum post about topics like AI, Copyright, licensing, or Internet culture. My issues were: - This isn't their game they're making, they're picking up a failed project - Announcement made it very clear that the founder has strong endearment to the people who were working on Hytale - They are picking up this game with the intention of making it it's own game (which... It already is...) - They are making this game a mode in Vintage Story (when it originally wasn't a mode, it's a game) - I don't want a completely unrelated failed game in Vintage Story personally (This is called a personal preference and opinion and people are allowed to disagree with you or me) - Hytale seems to be picked up not because it's a good idea but because they want to save their friends project (This is called making an inference based off of emotional language someone used, and inferences between people can differ. This is an OPINION and when people state opinions they are AWARE it is possible it is not a fact) - Not even sure if they can do that since the founder of Hytale just offered in his words "10x the value of Hytale" to buy the rights back and Riot has been dead silent - Some of the statements in the announcement seemed weird/sketchy/not really possible, like claiming it would come at no extra cost or no extra busy work. But then say they're picking up a whole other team to make this game. Well more teams means you're paying more people and overseeing more projects. So just be real. Again I HAVE changed my mind on some things because of GOOD FAITH POSTS THAT ARE ON TOPIC and my reply is somewhere in this forum on why I'm not nearly as concerned that this will impact VS at all. I don't think it will be successful either, but even if it fails I'm not longer concerned about Vintage Story somehow going down with it.

Bro don't drag me into your argument with someone else. God forbid I have an opinion on the Internet about a game, I get called out for outrage culture meanwhile people in this thread break out into actual outrage over completely unrelated topics. I can make whatever statement I want off of the information we all have. Disagree with it, cool. Tell me all about how you think this is a great idea, but don't sit here and tell me it's a "hypothetical scenario" while the Hytale founder is literally bleeding money trying to buy back their failed project from RIOT like omfg leave me tf alone with that nonsense Hope you can handle that tone sweetheart

I don't think it was popular at all, actually. No one I know knows about Hytale, and I have quite huge group of gamer friends and family that are into niche games. Whenever I see people talk about Hytale, or I go look into it, I also get mostly people giving it bad reviews or saying it doesn't even look interesting. Like people claim it was popular, but I really don't think it was at all. Not even survival sandbox circles I've been in have ever brought it up, and we have dozens of survival games made by indie devs. Even the article I quoted claims it was "one of the most popular open world survival games" linking to a top 10, but if you actually click on that article, Hytale isn't even mentioned. So like... Now, they're trying to salvage Hytale, when they don't even know if the founder can get the rights back, and say the game is compromised to the point that it's not startable nor compilable, and if they can't we'll possibly get a spin off of a spin off ...? A game based off a game in an unfinished game? Does that sound ideal to anyone? If they can't get the rights and they make a similar game right after, and vintage story is involved, then Angeo could get sued by riot games. Which would definitely impact the development of VS. and any other game they're making. Just look at how Palworld is doing with their constant battle with Nintendo. Honestly now with copyright involved and the game being in pieces why in the world would you want to pick this up? I could be totally off base here, but how the heck is the founder getting money worth "10x the value" of Hytale from??? Why did they sell it to riot in the first place if they could get that money? It all sounds incredibly sketchy.

"...In a new update, Collins-Laflamme confirms that he is now "in active discussions with Riot Games about acquiring Hytale.” ...One day prior to this announcement, Collins-Laflamme revealed that he had "Just made my final counter offer, the only chance to see Hytale. I'm going all in. This is the timeline. Let's fucking go." He adds that "The offer is 10x what the true market value is," and cautions that there's a lot of work to be done. "They have no team, no-one can even start or compile the game anymore. I hired most who could and will continue to do so in the coming days. Hytale is by the players, for the players." " This article is from 2 days ago: https://www.pcgamesn.com/hytale/riot-discussions Are they going to be able to even use anything from Hytale if the founder can't buy it back from Riot...? I'm so confused and that offer sounds so bad for them. That sucks. And I don't know about the state of the game, but the quotes from the founder themself doesn't sound super promising.

[1.20.4 Modpack] Hedonia: Immersion & Roleplay
cosmobeau replied to cosmobeau's topic in [Legacy] Modpack Releases
Although my server is still running on 1.20.4 (will update once there's a stable ch. 2 release) you can still use this list as a frame of reference. Hopefully most of these mods are still updating, and it will show on the links provided what their latest version is. -
[1.20.4 Modpack] Hedonia: Immersion & Roleplay
cosmobeau replied to cosmobeau's topic in [Legacy] Modpack Releases
At the time rustborn magic was buggy and had a lot of complaints on their moddb page, so we decided not to use it. There were also reports of it conflicting with other mods, and with complaints of it not being well balanced mob wise, we didn't think it would be great for new players. -
Server update and community update for those that follow me, or play on my sever/post in our discord RP forums: Just wanted to give the community an update on what our plans are for the server as chapter 2 comes closer to a stable release. As mentioned in https://discord.com/channels/1110385036043223091/1110396787191189576/1405635462881607692, it is impossible to update our heavily modded pre-chapter 2 stable release world into the latest stable version when it does drop. Regardless if we were updating along the way. On release day, we will start a whole new world. The old server will be hosted for 30 days, and another world file will be posted at the close of the server. Will there be mods on the future Chapter 2 Stable Release server? Likely if we launch on release day it will be Vanilla and mods that do not require to installed on world gen can be added as they update to the new version. Obviously They won't be available on launch day. Will the rules be the same? The rules will likely be very similar, with a Poll before launch asking the community if they would like to see changes. What about Roleplay Proximity Voicechat? Please make use of the "Join to Create" Channel, (a discord bot run channel) which will move you to your own custom channel, and in the text chat of that voice channel, set the name and status to reflect the activity. If someone has already made a "Vintage Story" themed VC, you can join that one. **Don't be afraid to start the voicechat even if you're the only one on.** In fact, if you open up a VC for something, and ping the role, people are more likely to join. When Proximity VC gets updated, we will add it. What about accessibility mods for disabilities? Until they get updated, we will do our best as admins to reasonably accommodate you. Whether that be pitching in clay for colorblind players, making the resource gathering speed quicker for carpel tunnel, or anything someone suggests, we are totally open to it. Will the server be more or less roleplay focused than the one running now? Although my plan for this Vintage Story server was for it to be roleplay heavy, I cannot force players to do things. I would love for the new server to have more of a roleplay focus than this one, but for that to happen, *people need to roleplay.* we have awesome books and lore buildings to explore and visit other players when they are on, however I haven't seen much of that happening. The first event we hosted was awesome, a lot of people showed up and were talking to eachother on proximity voice, and being incredibly helpful team players for finishing the story location, however there was no roleplay. Which is fine! I am so happy everyone got on, locked in, and enjoyed their preferred gameplay experience. When I did try to host a Arena-Inspired Roleplay event, hoping to attract not just our gritty technical players but also our story-driven RP players, it really fell through. I got a lot of help actually setting up the gambling system from @nonchalantanthony, but when it came to interest in helping build, even with the offer of letting people temporarily use creative mode, and people actually signing up and showing interest in the event, it completely fell through. I believe this is because a lot of or player base has finished all their goals for the game so far, and are waiting for Chapter 2. Hopefully, with a surge in activity on release, we can host a settlement event, with a focus on Roleplaying in Voice & Text chat, to help establish player characters and their relationships with others from jump to set the vibe for the server.

Oh geez, Riot Games picked them up? That does change a few things at least for my personal opinion LOL. I've been playing League of Legends since launch. And I've seen their history with League, but more importantly their other games. Anything not related to the League universe seems to get shafted. I mean I didn't even hear of Hytale, and I'm always in the Riot Game Launcher Client. I don't have enough knowledge to say this is a fact, however just from a single player's experience; they did nothing to hype up, advertise, or even mention Hytale in a way that was noticeable to their player base. I also in this forum post, will hit two birds with one stone here. As I see some new faces roll into this post who agree with a lot of my points, but are a touch more inflammatory, I would like to make it clear: I don't think this is a scam, and I don't think even the most wack takes disagreeing with me deserve to get scammed. There are also great opposing takes like those from Katherine here and one of the mods that have greatly shifted me away from being concerned about Vintage Story's development. I don't think people who have attacked me personally and not my take deserve vitriol back. I have an strong opinion online and I have enough virtual knowledge to know there's a POSSIBILITY that I'm going to get hateful comments back, and enough maturity to accept that and not let it effect me personally. That's why you notice, when I reply to one of those takes, I jokingly brush off what they say to me- I don't dunk on them as a person, because that's how threads spiral into Xbox live lobby behavior. It's also just the better play to try to follow netiquette as much as possible. You look a lot more persuasive and intentional with your take if it is on topic and you're not throwing shade the whole time. Even though I don't have a huge, fully formed relationship or opinion on the devs, I would say so far I do find everyone who works at the studio reasonable, personable, fair, and as transparent as a human being can be. I don't think they're hiding a bunch of BS behind a curtain whatsoever. And on the topic of money and them being able to do what they want with it, I agree to that too. Because at full development, honestly I would fork over more around $40 for VS. I truly think the game is worth more than Minecraft's current price. That might be a crazy hot take, idk. It just has way more to offer in content, gameplay, hell even just the basic aspects of it feel way more rewarding gameplay wise. They are obviously working on it at a reasonable pace, and if they have an influx of income it makes sense to pick up more teams and make more games. That's why I think(?) there wasn't much drama around the Secret Project reveal. I think *originally* my statement was more, well if the plan was to make it it's own fully fleshed seperate game, I was confused why they wouldn't start it that way from the get go while utilizing the same engine. I'm now way more split on that original take BECAUSE people disagreed, and instead of just post that they're mad at me, they actually have information as to why they disagree, without being rude. So please, if you disagree with them- carry that same energy! The best posts on here so far are those who are explaining why I shouldn't be so concerned. And they understand the gap of, me a single person criticizing the singlar decision of a whole game studio and their lead, not them completely and everything they've ever done. And also realize I'm literally one person from the outside. The people who are ACTUALLY involved with the game I'm criticizing, which means that criticism is technically more aimed at them, are way more peaceful and reasonable then players on here getting mad at my take. Like if that doesn't show how cool the team is I don't know what does!

I don't think videogame devs even ones from the UK are going to be able to help you figure out this one it's going to just have to play out and you're going to have to see what happens. No need to @ the devs on this one. They're not, like basically anyone else outside of law, proficient enough or even have enough inside knowledge on UK politics to be expected to answer this one, I think. I'm sincerely sorry that's happening there, though. I mean, people get to decide their own age verification right now. Like, 18+ only servers may just go off good faith that you're an adult, require an interview or proof, whatever... But to make that legally required? Damn, as a server host I'd be losing my mind right now. Never mind losing it over those laws. Like... What???

Experience with using AI to generate texture packs?
cosmobeau replied to Thorfinn's topic in Discussion
I literally didn't even realize it was the same person until my nosey boyfriend pointed it out because he likes seeing what I post in the forums. I mean AI texture packs ... I'd honest rather see a program that lets artists who make art in stuff like Paint Tool SAI or Krita be able to just make the art there and have an AI configure it and format it into a texture pack. -

I think regardless of the order the two separate behaviors are still pretty conflicting and funny to point out. Also, it's been at the top a lot recently. -

cosmobeau replied to Thorfinn's topic in Discussion
"AI" (we don't have true AI yet) can certainly be very exact and good at it's job. We're developing AI that can detect cancer early, help with processes that include human direction and creative input on a actual person's art or skill, and even help a long technical processes and collect incredibly relevant citations for requested data that would normally take a long time to compile for research. I don't like the black and white nature of the politics surrounding AI, but as it stands in the realm of art it's highly wrought with not just technical, but moral issues. -

The meme means, pick up the art tools and make the art yourself. "Pick up the pencil and draw" pick up the programs needed to make texture packs and make them yourself. That's why he's throwing a pack of Crayola colored pencils. People are already telling OP that AI isn't programmed to make AI art for texture packs. And using AI to make EVERYTHING on its own will always include plagerism. Same OP criticized me for criticizing a originally made game, using its own original game engine, turns around, and asks how to make texture packs with AI. Staggeringgg Like no ill will towards OP but c'mon lol -

My honest reaction to this thread -
Although I do severely disagree with mentioned person's take, I'm not completely convinced they're so off base. Yes, when you make a profit and you're ahead in your projects, it makes sense to pickup more teams and make more games. To my knowledge the reveal of the secret project wasn't met with much drama, for example. If they want to take in more teams under their studio and make new games, because so many people bought the first game they were making, that is so reasonable. However, people should get concerned, and are allowed to criticize when they feel yet another early access game might be stalled or not fully developed due to events that have occured within other failed projects. I'm not saying VS is gonna fail, but if someone sees a studio pickup a failed project because it was their friends, yeah that seems like not the best idea. I do feel like I got my money's worth too, I mean Minecraft costs more and offers very little in comparison to Vintage Story. I think VS is worth more. I mean if there's more chapters to come, hell I wouldn't even mind buying reasonably priced "dlc", I think the game honestly deserves a higher price. Or at least, at full release, it should cost moderately more. They've truly made something great, and they should use their engine to... Make other, separate games. It doesn't actually need to be in VS if the true plan is to make it a fully fledged game to begin with. Things like Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode makes sense. That's an actual "mode". What Angeo is actually making is a separate game. And yes, like unreal engine or RPG engines, there are plenty of games that use the same engine. But are separate games. It's weird to call this failed game, that's now picked up by a team now making two unfinished games, a mode, when they say it's goal is to be it's own game. It would make more sense to treat it like its own game from the get go, instead of doing this weird limbo act first with Vintage Story involved. I don't think anyone deserves to be scammed and I don't think this is a scam. I think it's a HIGHLY questionable and confusing decision that MAY impact not just VS but the game they picked up, since they're not even commiting to it being its own game, despite that being the goal. I DO think that shutting down people's valid concerns and criticisms just because you personally fancy a dev team that you don't even know personally is incredibly flawed logic too, though. Like you're right there, consumer logic has skewed in the age of parasocial feelings imo.

Yeah the claim that it's a good opportunity for Angeo Studios is a little dubious since ya know, Hytale failed. After some good takes on this thread I'm less concerned for the development for Vintage Story for sure. Some of the other takes however seem a little... Biased? I didn't really have a strong opinion one way or another about the devs when writing the original post, but I certainly had a opinion about the update post when reading it- with no prior knowledge of the community's overwhelming endearment and the drama surrounding the decision. So no, I'm not trying to feed anything, honestly I thought I was an outlier in my opinion, especially seeing people's reactions to my concerns about picking up Hytale. Devs seem very nice, and the mods are cool. I was more having a strong opinion about the singular event of the announcement, and what was said in it. Not anything else.

Low quality rage bait, come back when you're actually on topic. Or are reading other people's posts, because this conversation is about concluded and you're coming back with ad-hominem to stur the pot when everyone's full already. Also, you don't want drama round this but you keep coming here bumping the thread with dramatic messages that have nothing to do with the actual topic.

Experience with using AI to generate texture packs?
cosmobeau replied to Thorfinn's topic in Discussion
Enzoi does this not for shader packs but for customizing furniture and clothes, and aside from Enzoi being a failed game so far, their AI features honestly suck compared to how they were advertised. I'm all for using AI for utility and streamlining certain things but when it comes to visuals, AI is best used to help something YOU made, not the other way around. Let's say someone is animating something or finishing up a landscape- an AI can help with that, but making the AI do it on its own completely is almost always going to include plagiarism, and will honestly look poor for what you're describe because they're not really programmed to make texture packs. Tbh I'd follow in the game creator's footsteps. They supported creators and made their own original thing. Without AI. -
I unfortunately have the experience of hosting a server, where 9/10 people can play, and the people who can't, even after fucking with their security settings and firewall, can't seem to connect. With people from around the world connecting to my server, and making sure the two or three outliers doubled checked their info, I can't help but to think it's some kind of security issue, nat type, the way the program is usually initially flagged as potentially dangerous bc it's a outside dev download, or what. I can't really say what it is though, or I wouldn't have this problem. It is frustrating though.
-
I missed the drama... And wasn't going to read pages of people's comments lol. I just go read the updates like a good little server admin. I just thought some official posts get locked because of too much traffic or something I do love Vintage Story. I don't want anything to happen to the game or the studio... That's why my post was, uh, "passionate" lol Edit: oh damn I'm reading that thread and it is messy AF
