I'm researching the concept of introducing some kind of server meshing into Vintage Story, specifically for larger servers where the lag and latency can become almost unbearable. For those unfamiliar, server meshing is a concept where one large continuous world is partitioned into multiple servers, and when a player reaches a set boundary on the map they are automatically logged off the current server and put into the new "shard". Some notable examples are Star Citizen, Space Engineers, and of course Minecraft. This will obviously not be a seamless process like Star Citizen, there will be a loading screen as a player is shunted into the next area, but I do feel that this could dramatically increase performance, especially for activities such as PvP and group events. If anyone has any insight on this process, I would love to discuss it further, and I'm looking into the prospect of paying one or several modders to work on implementing this process for VS.
