But it is a malware? By definition the library mods never disclosed the anticheat that targets obfuscated code to cause the targets to crash. If you want definitions, EU laws would call it a trojan. Just because you weren't the target and the effects was only crashing and bad performance doesn't change the fact Maltiez distributed a malware to thousands of players through Anego's database. A normal response is to ban the bad actor and remove all their mods. Instead they get hired as a dev and their mods remain with free maintenance from Anego. How are we supposed to reconcile with this? I also expect Maltiez to plot their revenge cause they sure as hell have no remorse for what they did and there are plenty of ways to do damage even without code access

Maltiez is a dev so whatever they say is going to represent the Anego whether they like it or not. Looks like the anticheat malware was doing the heavy lifting on their own servers so now they actually have to manage it themselves.

Unfortunately I don't think we, as a community, are going to get any justice out of this. Anego is trying to cover their asses because this is a very legal issue and I'm likely to believe they condone Maltiez's actions in taking down the paid cheaters. 1. Downplay affected victims 2. Call it anticheat instead of malware 3. Put out a bunch of next steps / things there are already doing so they don't have to change 4. Scrub clean the affected mods 5. Sweep it all unde the rug until the outrage dies down 6. Maltiez keeps their job and gets free maintenance on their mods that they did not want to maintain. Also, guess who is going to maintain them on the dev side? Why not make the guy who made it, fix it. The only thorn in their side is that Maltiez has shown no remorse or issued any apologies. Which makes it hard to move on when the perpetrator is still on team. As much as I want to have faith in Tyron and the team to review Maltiez's code, I will always be reminded every patch going forward that a malware distributor may have slipped something in again.

You can eliminate the risk entirely by removing Maltiez and redirect the resources policing them back in to game development. Is Maltiez some kind of coding genius worth protecting? Based on their own statements, they only care about what works with no regard for players and modders because "Trust is not part of the equation here". How does someone like that meaningfully contribute to development? Having the other devs constantly review and correct their work is frankly a waste of time. Just tell me that Maltiez is critical to the game development going forward, that condoning the malware distribution, giving the finger to players and modders who were triggering the malware's false positive, banning players who were trying to figure out why a dev was targeting them is worth the price.

What difference? If they were a consult then pay the rest of their contract and walk away. If they're an employee then let them go for serious misconduct because their malware distribution continued up until recently through the mod Db owned by VS. By keeping Maltiez on the team, now Anego is also on the hook. I'd also add a section for an employee performance improvement plan, but we have multiple responses from Maltiev themself that they see nothing wrong with what they did, re-adding their malware, and have no remorse for the false positives affecting players that were a result of their malware. The steps going forward were all things they were already doing. Except now maltiez gets free maintenance on their mods. Honestly parting ways would have been best for everyone involved. Anego took steps to stop the problem, prevent it from happening again, and Maltiez would stop getting attacked. instead, the devs either don't think its a big deal or they're rewarding malware distribution with a spot on the team. Maltiez is free to make a new account and start this whole bullshit again

At minimum I would like Maltiez removed from the developement team so that there is not even a shred of a possibility of this happening again. I do not understand what Maltiez is contributing that is so essential to keeping them on the team after doubling down on distributing malware.

Where is the justice for players and modders who were falsely targeted? What is stopping Maltiez from retaliating again?

Ultimately it will be forked or independently remade since Maltiez cannot be trusted given they had removed and re-added their malware. Also keep in mind in addition to Config, overhaul and PML, Maltiez admitted they also contain the malware. It is in your best interest to wait until those mods have been rebuilt, if not for the malware, but because there are reports of performance issues

If you want to go further: Maltiez actually went to Anego and suggested an "anticheat". Ultimately this was not feasable for Anego and it was up to server hosts to manage their servers, whitelist, ban bad actors, etc. Then Maltiez added a malware to their mods after being told no. According to Maltiez themself, the malware was successful and the cheat mod maker had given up and discontinued their mod. So then why keep the malware in? Why create a blacklist after other modmakers contacted Maltiez after figuring out their mods were causing issues instead of removing the malware? Then Maltiez started doubling down and justifying themself. There is a reason vigilante behavior is not good, because ultimately taking down the "bad guys" became more important that protecting the victims

Maltiez distributed a malware through VS's mod database to thousands of users with malicious intent to target a specific group with little concern for any victims caught in the crossfire. Just because the malware itself was tame, does not downplay the huge liability issues this created for VS If VS cannot follow their own policies and terms of service, then we deserve the shitstorm that comes after.

For the longest time the server I hosted for myself and a friend, I would randomly crash every 30 min to 4 hours. Coincidentally, their malware does exactly that so now I'm left wondering if they were the cause.

Unfortunately innocent people are getting affected which is how we learned about this in the first place. The malware targeting was broad enough to affect other mods that had the misfortune of fulfilling the conditions Now said malware distributor is a developer for the game
