I'm so glad that the map has brought you some joy and entertainment, that was my goal! I'm still working on better updates and stuff, so hopefully Earth 2.0 will bring you an even better experience

Happy New Year everyone! I'm uploading a couple of updated pictures of the Japan map - It is coming along well. I'm slowly adding buildings and what not across the map for it to be more exciting when I finally upload it. The seasonal changes are far more accurately reflected now - Winter extends all the way to mid-Kyushu. Here is how it looks today: As you can see, the entire map is now densely forested (even many parts that look like there aren't any trees - They are there, they simply blend in with the colour of the grass). The only part that isn't forested is the Kanto plain. Here are some more miscellaneous screenshots. These are from the "Safe houses" I've constructed. They are scattered throughout the map here and there for a place to stay over night, provided you can find one. And a few more improvements of the landscape in general: Mount Fuji: A waterfall boardwalk in the Toyama Prefecture: I'm hoping the map will be available within a few more weeks!

Hello! Thanks for the interest and your questions. I'll do my best to answer them how I can. I'm very new to Vintage Story myself, so I'm unsure how the game files and mechanics work exactly. The map is a world save file, so it should *theoretically* come with all the information required, but it seems that there is indeed some missing data, like waypoints. I'm still trying to understand this and work out how to get this to work, but can't yet understand which files contain waypoint data explicitly. The map uploaded is basically as you identified, just the part that is uncovered which is 30K x 60K. The reason why it says 1 million x 1 million odd blocks is because of the worldpainter mod limitations. If you select any other dimensions than the standard 1 million by 1 million, the world will fail to render. The map took 10 odd in-game years to build because I hand painted every mountain and landscape individually, along with about half of the trees. This was not an easy or quick task. I usually use grayscale heightmaps but it was simply too much data and QGIS slowed to an unusable crawl when I tried to render this. It won't be possible to make the world map with edges just yet, due to the mod limitations I mentioned before. Have a festive holiday season, and Merry Christmas - Jason

Thanks so much! Already working on a few improvements

Thank you!

Ahh I see. The rivers and oceans will require an entire re-work, but I've started some tests already tonight to make the rivers and oceans with proper topography. It should be okay but I'll have to paint all the trees etc. again so it might be a while before a new map is ready. This coming week is busy with Christmas etc

It's very difficult to make gradual changes when the map is a comparatively small representation of the Earth. Every mountain and every hill was hand painted, and so there will always be some sacrifice somewhere... If it was possible to make the map larger (which it isn't, due to the worldpainter mod limits) it would be much easier to make the landscape more spread out. But I did the best with what I could. Rivers and oceans can be easily fixed though, as well as removing "border walls", if they're not wanted. Actually, I wanted to make border marks on the ground, but again it is a limitation of the worldpainter mod, as individual block types cannot be placed. The game simply renders every block as grass, so the only way to represent nations was to build upwards.

Yes I've heard that the rivers and seas are deep for others.. how many blocks is the difference between the sea level and the land for you? I may have to start working on some fixes... we can think of this as Earth 1.0

Thanks, so glad you like it

Thanks so much! I did not know that this is the first map to be uploaded that surprised me I really hope it meets people's expectations then! Please let me know if there's anything wrong with it - I'm already aware of an issue with the waypoints not showing up for some people... But thank you for your kind words, it's very encouraging and has definitely made my day

For the past 3 weeks I've been working on a climatically accurate map of Earth, today I've finally polished it to a point that I'm happy with. I made this world with the help of the worldpainter mod created by Hugo Cortell (YangWenLi). Link to the mod is here: https://mods.vintagestory.at/worldpainter#tab-description Please note that I've made this map in Creative mode, so if you'd like to use Survival mode, you'll need to change the game mode. The link to the world download is from my own personal Google Drive account, and includes a comprehensive list of waypoints from which you can start your game. The default spawn area is Brisbane in Australia, my home city. Some things of note: Desert regions are mottled and appear a bit unusual on the overview map (attached below) but are still realistically very dry and very hot. Northern latitudes appear mottled and are unusual beyond about 70 degrees north. National borders are represented by large ground block walls. You can dig through them or fly over them with Creative mode. In Survival, you can treat the country you're in as your maximum territory extent, the choice is yours. I was not able to select which forests should go where in worldpainter, so many forested areas have been hand painted and may not be 100% accurate to their real world environment. The seasonal overview maps below do not indicate *exactly* where snow falls. I made the overview map with a compilation of screenshots of the in-game map, so snow fall happened to be where it was on that particular day. Many trees float one block above ground level if they were placed manually (they still look aesthetically pleasing, but you'll notice close up) Small islands such as the Faroe Islands, the Galapagos Islands, Caribbean islands etc. will likely be too small to build much on. The starting year is year 11. There wasn't anything I could do about this as it took many in game years to build (and I wanted the time to keep running so I could see how seasons changed each region) You'll occasionally find a chunk which is unlit, please type in " /debug chunk relight " if you come across one. The world file size is an enormous 40.7GB. PLEASE don't forget to press "Customize" before starting your game to choose your own day lengths, animal aggression etc. Overview maps: Winter in the north, Summer in the south, and Summer in the north, Winter in the south. Some screenshots I took across the map to showcase it: Link to the world download (as mentioned above, 40.7GB): UPDATE: There has been some issue with Google Drive allowing the download of large files. If the .vcdbs file does not properly download, please download the part 1&2 .rar files. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CXcUl3NgkTe8XZtwq0StTmkEPqrNUyJg?usp=drive_link Please enjoy playing on the Earth!

Thanks! I'm also working on an Earth map :)) I'll showcase it fairly soon

Thank you! I've made it even better, but I'll start a new topic when it's 100% done

The creator of the mod has discovered that there's a hard limit on the world size right now a 100K x 50K map will result in the game not loading. However, I've recently managed to complete a 60K x 30K test map, so.. silver linings and all that

So basically what it is (in regards to the forestry), is the worldpainter script isn't quite perfectly translating the painted meta layers. This map is the 4th iteration where I've tried to get the mountains completely covered in forest but was unable. This means it'll have to be hand painted on. So I'm regarding that as furnishing... Like you, I myself am still kind of dissatisfied with the incorrect latitudes. I have to work within the confines of the way the game sets the latitudes, so this may mean a total re-do. I'm happy to do that, but the post I made still displays what the mod can do In any case, here in Australia we've got a long period of Christmas holidays just around the corner, so lots of time to get the perfect map done. I can find a place to upload the map once I get everything right, and you can have at it
